About The Position

OpenGov is seeking Product Engineer Interns for a 10-week program focused on learning product ownership from customer discovery to delivery. This internship emphasizes developing product thinking and customer curiosity, with engineering skills, particularly using AI-native tooling, being a secondary focus. The role is ideal for individuals interested in product management, UX design, or engineering who want hands-on ownership of a product problem. The internship runs from June 7, 2027, through August 13, 2027.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a degree in computer science, information systems, product design, HCI, business, or a closely adjacent field, or equivalent self-directed experience.
Genuine curiosity about customers and product success/failure.
Strong written communication skills to clearly articulate product decisions.
Comfort with ambiguity and making decisions with incomplete information.
Willingness to develop code fluency using AI-native tooling.

Nice To Haves

Prior exposure to product management, UX design, software development, or customer research (coursework, projects, internships, side work).
Familiarity with design tools (Figma, etc.) or development tooling.

Responsibilities

Participate in customer discovery conversations and synthesize findings into product decisions.
Define user experience flows and interaction patterns within the existing design system.
Write intent documents for AI tooling and review AI-generated specifications.
Collaborate with mentors to resolve ambiguity during the development cycle.
Track adoption and usage metrics to drive iteration.
Present product area, findings, and future recommendations in a final showcase.
Proactively identify and communicate gaps, risks, and unanswered questions.
