Senior | Staff Product Engineer

Convene Hospitality Group
•$150,000 - $200,000

About The Position

Convene Hospitality Group (CHG) is hiring Senior and Staff Product Engineers to join our Technology team. In these hands-on, full-stack roles, you’ll work across our brand portfolio to design, build, and modernize our tech stack—from client-facing digital experiences to the internal operating system that runs our business. We have openings at both levels and will align the title and scope to your experience. You'll join a small, sharp team that solves real business problems with whatever works best, whether that's AI, custom code, or intelligently integrated enterprise systems. You'll write code, design solutions, and contribute to the culture we’re building at CHG. Though early in adopting AI-driven development, we’re building an AI-first engineering team and want engineers who will help us get there. Day to day, that means paying attention to how we work, spotting technical gaps, and helping us iterate our way into the future. You'll help shape the tech and practices that we carry forward.

Requirements

  • You have 6+ years of experience engineering production software for Senior level, or 9+ years with cross-system architecture ownership for Staff level.
  • You're solid on relational data, including SQL, schema design, transactions, and migrations, and comfortable with modern data platforms: warehouses, pipelines, and getting the right data to the right place.
  • You build with quality and security in mind. That includes testing, accessibility, input validation, authentication and authorization, and common web security risks.
  • You use AI agents for real multi-step work, not just autocomplete. You write clear specs, scope tasks well, give agents the right context, and check what they produce against the real system. Maybe you’ve even said out loud, “I hardly even touch the actual code anymore.”
  • You think like a product engineer. You start with the problem, not the solution, ask "why" before "how," and get creative about solving it.
  • You make thoughtful technical judgments that hold up over time, even while treading in murky waters. You have a bias toward simple, maintainable solutions. KISS or bust.
  • You like thinking out loud. You bring ideas to technical planning, welcome pushback on yours, and give honest, kind feedback in return.
  • You explain decisions, risks, and trade-offs clearly to engineers and non-engineers. You make teammates better through code review, pairing, and mentoring.
  • You’re curious. You keep up with fast-changing tools and practices, evaluate them on evidence, and know what to bring in and what to admire from afar, based on what we can sustain long-term.

Nice To Haves

  • You've shipped an LLM-backed feature to production and trudged through the task of programmatically determining whether it's doing its job.
  • You've extended an AI development environment with MCP servers, repository instructions, reusable skills, custom workflows, or automated code review.
  • You've worked with business systems like Salesforce, NetSuite, or HRIS platforms.
  • You've built event-driven systems or reverse ETL pipelines.
  • You've worked with AWS or a similar cloud platform, and with infrastructure as code.
  • You've established new systems, standards, or engineering practices from an early stage.
  • You've worked in hospitality, events, real estate, or another customer-centric, multi-location business.

Responsibilities

  • Build end to end. Own features across the front end, back end, APIs, business logic, and data layer. You'll take them from ideation to production and beyond: measuring, learning, and continuously improving.
  • Connect the dots. Design how our systems fit together across brands, apps, and enterprise tools like Salesforce and NetSuite. Build the integrations that keep them talking, and handle client, employee, and financial data with security, privacy, and compliance in mind.
  • Turn problems into plans. Break ambiguous requirements into clear technical plans and reviewable units of work for humans and agents.
  • Work AI-native. Use AI agents across research, prototyping, implementation, testing, refactoring, and documentation, and verify what they produce.
  • Shape the foundation. Contribute to architecture, technology choices, and development patterns built to scale with the business.
  • Help set the standard. Introduce and refine AI development practices, tools, and workflows, and help teammates adopt them.
  • Wilderness coding. Make the codebase easier to work in, for people and agents alike. That means tests, monitoring, documentation, and architecture patterns that scale with the business.
  • Collaborate. Partner with product, design partners, and engineering to clarify requirements and explain trade-offs. Participate in code review, pairing, onboarding, and mentorship.
  • You've led technical work beyond your own tickets: scoping projects, guiding other engineers, and working with external partners or contractors to keep delivery on track and quality high. At the Staff level, you've owned architecture across multiple systems.
