About The Position

The Product Engineer 1 is an associate-level role within the product team’s career progression (PE1–PE4), responsible for maintaining Verdant’s product backlog and requirements pipeline. Requirements

  • AI-first mindset — demonstrated experience using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar) as a primary productivity tool, not just an occasional aid
  • Data literacy — ability to query and interpret data to answer business questions and validate assumptions (SQL fluency not required; AI-assisted querying is expected)
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodology and sprint-based delivery
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and a strong desire to learn the business domain

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Azure DevOps or GitHub for backlog management
  • Exposure to financial services, fintech, or commercial lending
  • Any coursework or certification in business analysis, product management, or Agile

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the product backlog with refined, development-ready stories under the direction of the Director of Product
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews and requirements sessions under the direction of the Director of Product
  • Author user stories and acceptance criteria following established team standards and templates
  • Query and interpret production data — using AI assistance where helpful — to answer business questions, inform story context, and validate assumptions
  • Apply AI tools (Claude, Copilot, MCP-connected agents) as a primary productivity multiplier for requirements documentation, story generation, and analysis
  • Create test cases and execute UAT scripts, tracking results and communicating findings to the team
  • Maintain product documentation, knowledge base articles, and process documentation
  • Participate actively in all sprint ceremonies including planning, standups, reviews, and retrospectives
  • Build deep domain knowledge in equipment finance and Verdant’s leasing verticals
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and surface recommendations to the Director of Product
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including testing and validation of changes, user acceptance testing, end-user training, and rollout coordination
  • Interact with internal and external business users to gather feedback, answer questions, and translate business needs into actionable requirements

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance
  • Paid Sick Leave, 3 weeks’ Vacation, and Holidays (about 11 a year)
  • HSA or FSA account and other voluntary benefits
  • 401(k) Retirement Saving Plan with Employer Match Program and 529 Savings Plan
  • Employee Mortgage Loan Program and free access to an Axos Bank Account with Self-Directed Trading
