Product Development Scientist/Engineer

Anton Paar•Boynton Beach, FL

About The Position

The Product Development Scientist/Engineer ensures scientific instrumentation developed by R&D performs reliably across its intended scientific applications and product lifecycle. This is a product-development role, not a sales applications role. The position connects engineering performance with real-world performance across scientific use, manufacturing, quality control, service, and other lifecycle activities. It evaluates whether the complete product performs as intended, develops and executes application-level studies, interprets instrument and measurement-system behavior, and works with engineering teams to identify the source and significance of performance limitations, variation, and unexpected results. The role provides experimental evidence and application understanding to support product requirements, performance claims, release decisions, and continued improvement. The position is an independent contributor and a member of multiple teams. Domestic or international travel to other Anton Paar facilities may be required, at less than 5%. The employee must be able to obtain a passport for international travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, physics, or another discipline involving quantitative experimental science.
  • Strong practical experience designing and conducting scientific experiments.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, understand variation, and draw defensible technical conclusions.
  • Experience using and troubleshooting sophisticated scientific, laboratory, process, or analytical instrumentation.
  • Practical experience applying statistical methods to experimental data and measurement-system performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate how manufacturing, quality control, service, environment, and workflow affect product performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to define requirements, test methods, acceptance criteria, and process controls from observed product behavior and lifecycle needs.
  • Ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, service, and other product-development functions.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, including the ability to turn technical evidence into clear instructions, limits, and conclusions.
  • Ability to obtain a passport for international travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Experience with adsorption, surface area, pore characterization, density measurement, gas analysis, powder characterization, or related materials-characterization techniques.
  • Experience developing or validating analytical methods, test methods, or acceptance criteria.
  • Experience with measurement uncertainty, metrology, statistics, or design of experiments.
  • Experience developing scientific instrumentation or other complex technical products.
  • Experience supporting product development beyond customer use, including manufacturing, quality control, service, verification, validation, or product release.
  • Experience working with prototypes where the measurement system, software, workflow, and method are still evolving.
  • Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, R, JMP, Minitab, or other tools used for experimental and statistical analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Translate product uses and lifecycle activities into measurable requirements, workflows, and acceptance criteria.
  • Design and execute application validation across scientific use, manufacturing, service, and quality control.
  • Generate instrument- and sensor-level data to characterize performance, variation, repeatability, and reproducibility.
  • Work with metrology expertise to define study methods and interpret measurement-system behavior in real use.
  • Apply appropriate statistical analysis to support specifications, validation conclusions, and external performance claims.
  • Investigate application limitations, failure modes, and unexpected results, and translate findings into product and process improvements.
  • Stay up to date on programming best practices, tools, and processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Travel to other Anton Paar facilities domestically or internationally when required (less than 5%).
