Product Development & Quality Process Engineer Co-op, Spring or Fall 2027
About The Position
The Ahlstrom Stevens Point Mill’s Co-op program aims to develop future engineering and leadership resources while providing high-quality process support. Co-op assignments are structured to offer growth opportunities in chosen disciplines and educate candidates on various career paths within the organization. The goal is for Co-ops to be fully capable of stepping into a full-time engineering position upon program completion. This position will assist the Product Development & Quality Team in achieving safety, quality, production, cost, and product development objectives for a paper machine process line. It offers the chance to work in an engaged, team-focused environment while building relevant skills and experience.
Requirements
- Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
- Enrolled in a Paper Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or similar Engineering degree program.
- Living in or willing to relocate to the Stevens Point, Wisconsin area from January – August or May - December 2027.
- Strong technical aptitude and proven problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate product improvement or cost optimization projects by conducting trials, including development of trial plans and authoring trial reports.
- Assist with machine shutdowns and start-ups.
- Learn and provide technical support to process engineers and coordinators with Proficy, Centerlining, Optivision, and Aspentech software systems.
- Monitor, assess, analyze, and optimize process quality and conditions.
- Monitor, assess, and analyze process variability.
- Reduce environmental impact.
- Provide technical support for key departments.
- Provide problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Follow Ahlstrom’s manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures, and policies, as applicable, to the position’s areas of responsibility, in order to meet and maintain the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper.
- Assist and/or lead safety, productivity, quality, efficiency, cost control, compliance, and housekeeping projects.
- Support machine manager in leading a paper machine process line, including daily and long-term activities.
- Support operations/maintenance efforts and drive continuous improvement.
