About The Position

The Product Development Engineer plays a critical role in driving the design, development, and successful introduction of new products within the organization. This position is responsible for transforming conceptual ideas into manufacturable products by integrating mechanical design principles with practical manufacturing processes. The engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, and quality assurance to ensure products meet performance, cost, and reliability targets. A key outcome of this role is to develop robust prototypes and test fixtures that validate product functionality and assembly processes before full-scale production. Ultimately, the Product Development Engineer ensures that new products are introduced efficiently and effectively, supporting the company’s innovation and market competitiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience in mechanical design and product engineering within a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, test fixture design, and assembly process development.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and the ability to collaborate effectively with production teams.
  • Proficiency in LabVIEW or similar test automation software.
  • The required skills are applied daily to design and refine mechanical components that meet both functional and manufacturability criteria.
  • Mechanical design expertise enables the engineer to create detailed CAD models and drawings that serve as the foundation for prototyping and production.
  • Test fixture development and LabVIEW proficiency are essential for creating automated testing setups that ensure product quality and performance.
  • Understanding manufacturing and assembly processes allows the engineer to optimize designs for efficient production and cost-effectiveness.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) in a high-volume manufacturing setting.
  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing techniques such as additive manufacturing or CNC machining.
  • Strong project management skills and experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Certification in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
  • Preferred skills such as advanced manufacturing knowledge and project management enhance the engineer’s ability to lead complex product development initiatives and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting scientific research to develop innovative products, technologies, or processes and/or improve existing products in conjunction with Sales and Business Development
  • Develop and maintain technical specifications for raw material used in the manufacturing of belting products.
  • Engage raw material suppliers to ensure that materials meet technical specifications.
  • Assist in production trials and subsequent testing and reporting
  • Accurately perform incoming raw material quality checks requiring chemical and physical testing, including necessary sampling and sample preparation.
  • Accurately perform in-process testing of semi-finished goods to determine viscosity, melt flow index, shore hardness, moisture content
  • Effectively communicate and cooperate with supervisors and co-workers to achieve company goals and objectives.
