About The Position

This is an entry-level, onsite contract position for a Product Development Engineer, specifically seeking recent college graduates. The role involves assisting in the concept generation, design, development, and evaluation of new products, materials, and technologies within a medical device company. The engineer will develop prototype products, processes, and test set-ups, operate manufacturing and/or test equipment, and record data with limited supervision. This position also requires providing technical support to engineers, gathering and formatting technical data, preparing engineering documents and reports, and scoping equipment for use and qualification. Effective documentation and communication of test results are essential.

Requirements

  • Education or training in a secondary school in a technical discipline with some work experience in a technical discipline.
  • Ability to work with basic computer programs (e.g., creating documents in Microsoft Office).
  • Experience performing product inspection and/or testing, preferably in a regulated industry.
  • A combination of education (education or training must include a secondary school and must have been in a technical discipline) and 2 or more years relevant work experience (4 or more preferred).
  • Minimum of an Associate Degree with less than 2 years relevant work experience.
  • Technical / Vocational Diploma or Certificate.

  • Experience in prototype building and testing.

  • Ability to understand and perform designed test procedures.
  • The ability to work effectively in a cross functional group is critical.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in concept generation, design, development and evaluation of new products, materials, and technologies.
  • Developing prototype products, processes, and test set-ups.
  • Setting up and operating manufacturing and/or test equipment.
  • Recording data with limited supervision.
  • Providing technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks.
  • Gathering, maintaining, formatting, compiling, and manipulating technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
  • Producing engineering documents, reports, and drawings (flow charts, block diagrams and schematics).
  • Preparing reports and summaries, including quantitative analysis.
  • Scoping equipment for use and completing qualifications.
  • Notifying manager upon recognition of factors that may affect project.
  • Executing designed test protocols.
  • Effective documentation and communication of test results.
