About The Position

As a Product Development Engineer, you’ll be part of our automotive team working as an onsite employee. You’ll get to be responsible for becoming intimately familiar with the makeup and function of Automated Fastening Systems such as, Stud Welding Systems (SWS), Self Piercing Riveting (SPR), Automated Blind Fastening (ABF). You will investigate and recommend cost effective improvements. You will design, develop and update mechanical systems employed in the company’s products and equipment for new applications, systems improvements, and cost savings. You will participate in new/existing product launches via FMEA, DVP&R, 8D Methodology. You will utilize DFMEA to capture lessons learned for future usage and drive product improvement activities. You will provide expert assistance to automated systems manufacturing and repair personnel for trouble-shooting malfunctions in components and systems. You will be responsible for contact with mechanical tooling components sources for verification of test and performance requirements; assists purchasing and quality control in resolving technical questions or difficulties. You will coordinate the specification, build, and installation of complete systems to meet customer requirements. You will provide technical assistance in mechanical matters to internal and external customers as required. You will utilize Finite Element Analysis & Computational Fluid Dynamics to mathematically model systems as required. You will provide expert assistance to other areas as directed and performs all other duties as assigned. You will be able to travel 10% or less and on a global scale.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of related, on the job experience in detail mechanical design and development or applications development preferred.
  • Understanding of principles of mechanical engineering theory along with general drafting skills.
  • Understanding of engineering practices of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • 2+ years of Unigraphics (UG) design experience preferred.
  • Experience in PDM (PTC/WindChill) systems at user level preferred.
  • 2+ years of FEA and/or CFD experience/coursework preferred.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good leadership skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Experience in automotive industry preferred.
  • Experience with automation products, automated feeding, electro-mechanical products preferred.

Responsibilities
