About The Position

This role is for a Product Development Engineer who will contribute to the success of Soundwich by taking on various responsibilities related to product design, customer interaction, and internal processes. The engineer will be involved in leading design requirements for customer RFQs, participating in the Quoting Team, and assisting with Tech Reviews. Key tasks include designing and detailing exhaust component heat shields and body panels, maintaining CAD data integrity, transferring CAD data, and assisting in customer relations on design issues. The role also involves creating and maintaining EBOMs, completing design work requests, maintaining plant layouts, applying GD&T, and managing product drawings and records. Additionally, the engineer will create new product drawings and models, update drawings for modifications, and make changes for ECRs and NPRs. Basic engineering principles will be applied for product designs, and the engineer will review regulatory artwork for production and manufacturing. The position requires generating 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings, supporting product release into production, and adhering to all company procedures and quality, environmental, and safety policies. The engineer must understand the impact of nonconforming products and their role in achieving conformance within the Quality, Environmental, and Safety Systems.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge in the following Software – Unigraphics NX version 9.0, CATIA V5, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD Inventor
  • Surfacing, detailing, solid modeling, and data conversion
  • General automotive knowledge
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Mechanical design knowledge
  • Manufacturing experience and/or proficient understanding a plus
  • Leadership abilities
  • Strong communication skills and strong teamwork sense
  • Must have a global mindset
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Minimum Language Skills: English

Responsibilities

  • Motivation, i.e., helping Soundwich succeed within Job Classification Responsibilities
  • Lead design requirements for Customer RFQs (not applicable to Aerospace product design)
  • Member of the Quoting Team
  • Assist on Tech Review slides as needed
  • Travel to Tech Reviews/other Customer engagements as needed
  • Design and detail exhaust component heat shields, body panels, etc. that meets Customer’s clearances and requirements (non-Aerospace)
  • Maintain strong familiarity with specific Customer CAD data integrity requirements
  • Transfer CAD data to (non-Aerospace), and from Customer
  • Assist in Customer relations on design issues
  • Create and maintain EBOMs for the assemblies assigned
  • Complete design work requests on-time and accurate (non-Aerospace)
  • Maintain Plant Layouts
  • Apply and interpret GD&T
  • Maintain product drawings and accurate records (non-Aerospace)
  • Maintain Customer-specific Specifications as required
  • Keep Customers’ design of record in alignment with Soundwich design of record
  • Create new product drawings/models (non-Aerospace) and complete necessary calculations
  • Create/update product drawings and calculations necessary for product modifications (non-Aerospace)
  • Make drawing/model modifications for ECRs (Engineering Change Requests) & NPRs (New Product Requests) (both non-Aerospace Requests)
  • Use basic engineering for some basic product designs (non-Aerospace)
  • Review regulatory artwork for production and manufacturing
  • Generate 3D models/assemblies, and 2D drawings
  • Support the release of product into production
  • Understand and follow all Company Procedures and work instructions pertaining to assigned tasks, and the potential consequences of departure from these Procedures
  • Knowledge of the Quality Policy, Quality Objectives, all Company Policies, and the importance of conformance to Soundwich and Customer requirements
  • Knowledge of the effects that nonconforming products have on our customers
  • Knowledge of the Environmental Policy, Environmental Objectives, all Safety Polices, and the importance of conformance to Soundwich and Regulatory requirements
  • Aware of the Quality impacts of their work activities, their roles and responsibilities in achieving conformance within the Quality System and the benefits of improved personal performance
  • Aware of the Environmental and Safety impacts of their work activities, their roles and responsibilities in achieving conformance within the Environmental and Safety System and the benefits of improved personal performance
  • Aware of how to submit Quality, Safety, Environmental and Business-Related questions or suggestions, and how to initiate continual improvements
  • Any other responsibility deemed by Soundwich Management to be in the best interest of Soundwich and our Customers
