About The Position

Simpson Race Products, a leader in racing and motorcycle safety products, is seeking a Product Developer for its Simpson Powersports brand. This role is crucial for product design and vendor collaboration, managing tasks from concept to market. Responsibilities include design coordination, realizing designs into actual products, vendor communication, and overseeing sample validation through to production. The position involves cross-functional engagement to execute the product portfolio, manage external development processes, and maintain communication with Portfolio and Marketing teams. This role is based in the New Braunfels, TX office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • 3+ years of experience in product development or a related role.
  • Solid understanding of powersports helmets, PPE, and soft goods requirements.
  • Proactive personality style, eager to learn and grow within the role.
  • Analytical mindset with exposure to interpreting and tracking product requirements through phase gates to commercialization.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with vendors, cross-functional teams, and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with product development phases, gates, and requirements.
  • Interest in participating in product evaluation, contributing insights to enhance future product development endeavors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist product designers and contractors in building products that align with brand, portfolio strategy, and seasonal scope.
  • Manage vendor communication to ensure factory development stays within scope.
  • Evaluate and iterate on prototypes.
  • Select materials and components.
  • Design, coordinate, and develop packaging.
  • Develop and validate barcodes.
  • Create user guides and/or manuals.
  • Evaluate fit and finish of products.
  • Collaborate with teams to communicate pertinent product attributes for informed decision-making and material selection.
  • Assist in NPRs where applicable.
  • Track vendor progress for timely product development and commercial readiness according to development and GTM calendars.
  • Provide weekly report-outs to leadership and the powersports team on product development progress.
  • Build and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Execute change requests throughout the development process.
  • Track product and costing changes.
  • Enter product specifications, costs, and other relevant attributes into internal and external systems.
  • Conduct wear testing.
  • Confirm fit and finish.
  • Validate material and construction details.
  • Coordinate, assess, and document compliance.
  • Attend shows and events as needed.
