About The Position

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career. As a Product Development Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by developing and maintaining real-time PREEMPT-RT Linux-based software for automated electromechanical systems, designing software interfaces between embedded firmware, DSPs, sensors, and higher-level application software, and developing system services, drivers and middleware supporting deterministic, real-time operation of automated motion/machine-control systems. You will also implement coordinated motion and machine control over industrial fieldbus such as EtherCAT, integrating motors, encoders, sensors, and actuators, and integrate the control platform with machine-vision / AI Edge inspection subsystems and operator HMI. This role involves supporting software architecture, integration, testing, and deployment of next-generation automation systems, collaborating closely with firmware, hardware and systems engineers to deliver reliable field-ready products, and driving product architecture, feasibility studies, prototyping and engineering verification. You will collaborate with suppliers and external development partners to scale solutions, generate intellectual property through innovative solutions in automation, robotics and cable installation technologies, and interface with cross-functional team members to ensure successful program delivery. Additionally, you will communicate tests and other program results to internal and external stakeholders, and drive the development and commercialization of products to efficiently, reliably and sustainably deliver energy to customers around the world.
