Product Designer, People Innovation Labs
About The Position
OpenAI is hiring a Product Designer to support People Innovation Labs, a fast-moving engineering team embedded in the People organization. The team rethinks how OpenAI finds and retains talent and enables employees to do their best work, using OpenAI models and first-principles thinking to build systems and products across recruiting and culture. Projects include greenfield products such as OpenHouse, an internal knowledge hub, AI-powered automations, and scalable recruiting tools. The team aims to define how AI can enhance productivity, culture, and innovation. Embedded with Product and Engineering, the Product Designer will help ensure the team’s work drives measurable business outcomes. The role contributes to product and design direction, takes products from early concepts through high-fidelity prototypes and visuals to shipping, collaborates across disciplines, conducts user research, evolves the design system, and helps establish design culture and grow the team.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience shipping larger-scale software products.
- A portfolio demonstrating strong UX, UI, and interaction design skills, with a high bar for quality and craft.
- Strong ability to think through complex interaction design problems.
- Impactful communication and storytelling skills.
- Enjoyment of tackling ambiguous problems and shaping them into a clear vision.
- Excitement about engaging with AI research and defining how AI-first products should look and behave.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the overall design and product direction for internal People products at OpenAI.
- Design and ship high-quality products and improvements, from early concepts to high-fidelity prototypes and visuals.
- Partner with engineering, product management, AI research, and design peers to define long-term strategy and short-term tactics.
- Engage in user research to better understand users and refine products.
- Contribute to and evolve the design system.
- Help establish the design culture and grow the team.
