Product Designer

Decoda HealthToronto, ON
CA$140,000 - CA$180,000Onsite

About The Position

We are looking for a versatile, intrinsically motivated Product Designer to help rethink how modern healthcare software is built. At Decoda Health, you will function as a blend of designer, product manager, consultant, and design-system owner. The primary focus is on solving customer problems, with flexibility in the tools and processes used to achieve this. Decoda Health is a YC-backed team developing an operating system for medical practices, aiming to automate high-friction tasks such as scheduling, payments, communications, and charting, allowing providers to concentrate on patient care. The company operates with a unique approach where design is integrated into every stage of product development, with the entire product team sharing ownership of design. The design function's role is to empower the team to make informed decisions and to tackle the most significant design challenges. This role offers a high-ownership, fast-moving environment with significant autonomy, working on-site in Toronto with a talented, low-ego team.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of product design experience in desktop or web SaaS.
  • Ability to think from first principles rather than solely applying standard UX processes.
  • Capacity to break down complex user problems by asking clarifying questions.
  • Sufficient experience where intuition can solve usability problems without sole reliance on data, metrics, or research.
  • Curiosity and resourcefulness to develop creative solutions and de-risk them appropriately.
  • Strong skills in layout, navigation, information architecture, UI, and interaction design.
  • Strong visual design skills with an obsession for craft and detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at an early-stage startup.
  • Experience as a solo designer.
  • Work in health tech or another complex, regulated domain.

Responsibilities

  • Consulting for engineers on layout, typography, and flows.
  • Investigating problems by engaging with customers, collaborating with go-to-market teams, and requesting data to formulate well-supported proposals.
  • Utilizing Figma to visualize ideas and create alignment artifacts for stakeholders.
  • Writing detailed specifications for design proposals.
  • Taking ownership of larger features, considering jobs-to-be-done, navigation, information architecture, layout, and interaction.
  • Incorporating customer feedback and using heuristics to develop a usability backlog and propose projects for engineers.
  • Consolidating and refining the design system for functionality, aesthetics, and best-in-class performance.

Benefits

  • Compensation: CA$140,000 – CA$180,000, plus equity.
  • High Impact: a high-ownership role at a YC-backed company where your work directly improves patient care.
  • Craft & Ownership: you'll shape a huge product surface and help build our design system from close to the ground up.
  • Team Culture: a fast-moving, on-site team in Toronto that values high talent and zero ego.
