About The Position

Metabolic is a specialist metabolic medicine clinic combining clinical depth with a digital-first patient experience across weight management and obesity, diabetes and pre-diabetes, cardiovascular risk, and hormonal and thyroid health. The clinic is launching in Knightsbridge, London, and is building the product layer from the ground up. This role is central to that build, focusing on owning the full design surface of Metabolic, including mobile app, web, patient-facing and clinician-facing interfaces, and the design system. The role requires direct collaboration with the Head of Product and Technology, making significant decisions and shipping work that patients interact with from day one, with a high quality bar and a fast pace.

Requirements

• 3 or more years designing digital products across mobile and web.
• A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end thinking, including problem framing, iteration, and shipping, not just final screens.
• Real experience owning or significantly contributing to a design system.
• Strong data visualization work, such as dashboards, health data, scoring interfaces, or making complex information legible.
• Experience working in small teams with a fast pace and making decisions with incomplete information.
• High-level proficiency in Figma, including components, variables, auto-layout, prototyping, and developer handoff.
• Working knowledge of AI-powered design tools and a clear point of view on their usefulness.
• Enough HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript to have informed conversations with engineers and catch implementation issues.
• Proficiency in user research, including knowing when to conduct it, how to synthesize findings, and how to use it effectively without causing delays.
• Excellent written communication skills for clear documentation of design decisions and self-explanatory Figma files.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working on a health tech product (patient-facing apps, clinical tools, EMR integrations, wearable data).
• Experience designing for regulated environments (GDPR, MHRA, CQC adjacent) and understanding compliance implications for UX decisions.
• Experience using tools like Framer, Webflow, or similar for advanced prototyping.
• An opinion on current AI-native product design best practices.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the Metabolic design system across web and mobile, including component libraries in Figma, documented token sets, and interaction patterns.
• Design across the full stack of digital touchpoints, from the patient app and booking funnel to the clinician dashboard, considering differences between mobile and web interfaces.
• Utilize AI tools as a serious part of the workflow for tasks such as Figma Make, Google Stitch, Claude for design exploration, and v0 for rapid prototyping.
• Present complex biomarker data, scoring systems, and trend charts in a clear and human-centered way for patients and clinicians.
• Work closely with engineers, contributing meaningfully to implementation conversations and making tradeoffs with build time in mind.
• Inspect CSS, review components in a codebase, and identify potential development problems.
