About The Position

Pennylane is seeking a Product Design Manager with a strong strategic and design mindset and extensive experience in complex product environments. This role offers the opportunity to mentor, coach, and lead a team of talented designers to ensure partners have the best user experience. The ideal candidate will have proven experience working with C-level executives and executive committees, with the ability to simplify complex topics, communicate clearly with senior stakeholders, and adapt influence in high-stakes discussions. The Design team at Pennylane is central to the mission of delivering an accessible, seamless, and enjoyable experience for users, operating within cross-functional squads and valuing autonomy, trust, and transparency.

Requirements

  • Fluency in French and proficiency in English.
  • Strong track record of leading product design teams, preferably in B2B organizations.
  • Excellent eye for design and ability to assist the team with creative inputs.
  • Ability to align team decisions with the overall vision, JTBD, and design guidelines.
  • Experience fostering an inclusive, open, and engaged design team culture.
  • Comfortable communicating future design directions with senior stakeholders, including founders, and inspiring positive action.
  • Collaborative approach, with experience working closely with Designers, Engineers, and Product Managers.
  • Significant experience collaborating with senior executives (C-level, Executive Committee, etc.).
  • Ability to simplify, synthesize, and translate complex issues for non-expert audiences.
  • Comfortable presenting and defending decisions to senior stakeholders.
  • Skilled at finding the right balance in meetings—knowing when to lead, when to listen, and how to adapt approach to the context.
  • Experience in discovering and solving complex problems through data and insights.
  • Energized by an ever-shifting work environment.
  • Highly collaborative (within team or with other stakeholders).
  • Sufficiently experienced to prioritize business-led actions in day-to-day activity.

Responsibilities

  • Scale and level-up a team of 5 product designers, partnering with design leaders, cross-functional partners, and HR to hire, develop, and retain design talent.
  • Identify strategic UX opportunities to enhance user productivity and drive these forward with product and engineering peers.
  • Orchestrate user research with product leads and the team to understand user behavior, needs, and wants, converting insights into actionable strategies.
  • Measure the effect of design on business performance and oversee critical strategic directions.
  • Contribute expertise back to the business through insights and best practices for users.
  • Help the team balance speed, quality, and design consistency, focusing on JBTD and business goals.
  • Shape and establish design processes by driving design best practices for impact and efficiency.
  • Partner with design ops teams.
