  • Experience using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or CATIA.
  • Proficiency in testing and evaluating mechanical designs.
  • Knowledge of rapid prototyping methods such as 3D printing, CNC, and laser cutting.
  • Familiarity with mass-production manufacturing methods such as injection molding, die casting, sheet metal, and CNC.
  • Fundamental knowledge of material properties for plastics and metals.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment by the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
  • Intent to return to a full-time degree program after completing the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with rack-mounted computer equipment.
  • Understanding of mechanism, sheet metal, and plastic part design, as well as design for manufacturing, serviceability, or assembly.
  • Familiarity with tolerance analysis, structural analysis (FEA), or thermal analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Brainstorm innovative ideas and define requirements that balance performance, comfort, and aesthetics.
  • Design mechanical modules and systems, including enclosures, thermal solutions, and dynamic components.
  • Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software.
  • Analyze design functionality, including through free-body diagrams, weight analysis, tolerance analysis, and statistical analysis.
  • Rapidly prototype designs using 3D printing, CNC, and other fabrication techniques.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues by iterating on designs.
  • Validate design intent and functional requirements through data-driven testing and analysis.
  • Collaborate with electrical, optical, manufacturing, reliability, and industrial engineers to integrate hardware systems.
