About The Position

MAC Trailer is seeking a Product Design Engineer to join their team. This role requires technical skills and experience in a manufacturing environment. MAC Trailer is the nation’s foremost manufacturer of dump, flatbed, and transfer trailers, straight truck bodies, dry bulk pneumatic tanks, and liquid tank trailers. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, modeling, and creating assemblies using CAD software, developing and continuously improving existing and future products, defining part numbers and assembly structures, and providing engineering support to various departments and customers. The role also involves performing basic engineering calculations, determining requirements based on sales specifications, evaluating material costs and weights for cost-effective and durable designs, and ensuring compliance with DOT regulations.

Requirements

Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
4-year Engineer Degree
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common drawings and schematics
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, dealers, sales staff, supporting departments and management
Ability to effectively communicate information to top management, coworkers and all parties needing notified
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Computer skills essential to the position
Ability to manage time and multiple tasks at once
Technical skills
Experience in a manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

Design, model and create assemblies using CAD software
Issue and prepare detailed drawings, specifications for shop production
Responsible for trailer design development and continuous improvement of existing and future products
Define part numbers and assembly structures for input into Bills of Materials
Determine long lead time items for an advanced bill of materials for purchasing
Create and maintain all engineering procedures and documents
Engineering support for all internal departments, outside sales, and customers
Perform and have the ability to carry out basic engineering calculations
Determine requirements based on sales specs for overall engineering product design
Evaluating material cost and strategizing the most cost-effective means for production
Determine legal requirements based on DOT regulations for final design
Confers with research and development and prepares design modifications as required
Evaluating material weights to manufacture a durable but light product
