Product Design Engineer III
About The Position
The Product Design Engineer III provides consultation in one or more areas of project design, equipment engineering systems, and improvements to existing products, following department procedures. The role collaborates with other departments to ensure products meet customer specifications and engineering procedures. The engineer models pump components in SolidWorks, sizes and selects system components, and designs components and systems within the pump product line. The role supports design and product development, translates customer needs into functional engineering solutions, assists with specifications, design, and test methods for new products, and works with manufacturing associates to address design-for-manufacturing and production concerns. The engineer also conducts studies and research, resolves complex engineering problems, supports effective communication, and manages project timelines and critical-path planning with the project manager or project engineer.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, including fundamental knowledge of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.
- Technical degree in Mechanical Design and Drafting.
- Experience working in an engineering, manufacturing, and test environment.
- High level of expertise and experience using SolidWorks for 3-D modeling and 2-D detailing of components and assemblies for large, complex systems.
- Fifteen years of experience in a systems engineering and manufacturing environment, designing rotating and reciprocating equipment.
- Proficiency in scientific computing, finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, and rotor dynamics.
Responsibilities
- Model pump components in SolidWorks.
- Size and select system components.
- Design components and systems within the pump product line.
- Support design and product development.
- Understand customer needs and translate them into functional engineering solutions.
- Assist in creating specifications, designs, and test methods for new products.
- Provide technical guidance to manufacturing associates on issues affecting design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA), manufacturing capability, and production rate for new products.
- Facilitate studies and research to develop scope definitions, design-response correlations, and design solutions.
- Resolve complex engineering problems in a timely manner.
- Ensure effective communication within the team and between the team and the rest of the organization.
- Manage timelines with the project manager or project engineer, maintain focus on the critical path, and ensure appropriate contingency plans are in place.
