About The Position

The Design Engineer II designs and supports fabricated mechanical products from concept through production. This role creates engineering designs, calculations, 3D models, and manufacturing drawings while collaborating cross‑functionally to meet performance, cost, schedule, and quality goals. The position is ideal for an early‑career engineer who can work independently on routine designs and grow into more complex projects with mentorship.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology, required
  • 3–5 years of mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment, required
  • Proficiency with CAD tools and standard engineering calculations, required
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, weld symbols, and fabricated assemblies, required
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working cross‑functionally.
  • Willingness to work in both office and shop floor environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with heavy or welded fabrication, preferred
  • FEA, tolerance analysis, and structural welding knowledge, preferred
  • Familiarity with PDM/PLM and ERP/MRP systems, preferred
  • Exposure to manufacturing processes and basic project management, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Interpret customer sketches and specification to Design mechanical components and assemblies using sound engineering principles.
  • Create and review 3D CAD models and 2D fabrication/assembly drawings (Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar), adhering to ASME standards.
  • Perform engineering calculations (stress, deflection, welds, bolted joints).
  • Apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5), welding standards, and material specifications.
  • Develop and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs) and process ECOs.
  • Support manufacturing by resolving drawing issues and improving designs.
  • Collaborate with customers, sales, customer service, purchasing, manufacturing, quality departments, and vendors.
  • Assist with failure analysis, cost reduction efforts, and product improvements.
  • Spend ~15–20% of time on the shop floor to support fabrication and build relationships.
  • Participate in DFMA and continuous improvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
