About The Position

This role involves managing product lines, supporting order release and manufacturing, leading product development projects, and contributing to conceptual design. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring product specifications, performance requirements, and feasibility of proposals. They will also lead teams in solving complex product-related problems, mentor junior engineers, and perform structural analysis using FEA. Additionally, the role requires interaction with sales, marketing, and vendors, as well as adherence to safety and company policies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Intermediate to Advanced capability in structural mechanics.
  • Understand and apply Finite Element Analysis and strength of materials at the component and system level.
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, CAD software (Solidworks), FEA software (Solidworks), project tracking software
  • Project planning techniques
  • Experience designing welded, bolted, riveted, and bonded fabricated assemblies.
  • Knowledge of material science for steel, aluminum, composites

  • GD+T
  • Previous Trailer Design, and/or Dry Van Product Design experience
  • 7+ years of experience in a similar field
  • Basic skills in finite element analysis (FEA) and structural analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to Innovate and create.
  • High level of communication – Multilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in leading medium size cross functional projects (6 month+ duration)

Responsibilities

  • Manages product line and options offered to customers, keeping drawings and attributes up-to-date and working with the trailer configurator Ruler quoting tool.
  • Manages ECRs for Product Line and assigned accounts.
  • Supports the Order Release Team by engineering options and defining bill of materials to complete customer orders on time.
  • Supports all production lines that build the engineers product.
  • Directs or coordinates the building of prototype systems or products.
  • Works with Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering to establish or improve manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Ensures products are being made to plan and assists in preventing or eliminating defects.
  • Leads the project definition, planning, and approval of identified projects, demonstrating the feasibility of designs considering cost, market requirements, time limitations, planning, existing manufacturing processes, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Serves as project leadership for several medium to large product development projects and oversees multiple projects for comprehensive introduction to the facility and product line.
  • Collects cross-functional internal and external voice of customer to establish product specifications, performance requirements, and data used to determine the feasibility of proposals.
  • Leads the development of functional designs, involving stakeholder feedback from purchasing, sales, manufacturing, and engineering.
  • Responsible for leading team members across multiple functions to solve complex problems associated with product design, field failures, validation, and production challenges.
  • Mentors or trains team members in more complex engineering systems or processes related to Design, Analysis, or Testing.
  • Performs intermediate to advanced structural mechanics analysis, understanding and applying Finite Element Analysis and strength of materials at the component and system level to ensure structural integrity and regulatory compliance.
  • Generates materials list for estimating purposes.
  • Provides technical information to sales and marketing for training the sales force.
  • Works with vendors to evaluate and select components.
  • Inspects quality of supplied components for compliance with requirements.
  • Contributes to the team effort to produce a quality product.
  • Performs all assigned tasks in a safe, efficient, timely, accurate, and highly productive manner according to Company policy.
