About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. This role is part of the Electrical Products and Services (EPS) team within AWS's Data Center Engineering global engineering team. The EPS team is responsible for the design and continuous innovation for products used within AWS's rapidly expanding data center footprint, focusing on designing and developing resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution products and systems. The engineer in this role will be responsible for achieving world-class uptime for customers, driving continuous advancements and improvements in designs, communicating technical direction to Senior Leadership, and seeking new ways to enhance reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. Requirements

  • 5+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
  • 5+ years of commissioning experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
  • Experience in commissioning
  • Knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems design

  • Professional Engineer License
  • Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
  • Medium Voltage Switchgear and/or Medium Voltage Transformer experience

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design.
  • Lead new product design, development and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS datacenters with primary focus on MV switchgear and transformers as well as connecting dependencies with LV switchgear and power distribution.
  • Develop Capex and Opex spending budgets taking into account development costs with vendors, prototyping needs, testing and specialized tooling requirements.
  • Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment and components, ensuring tier 2-3 supply chain resiliency.
  • Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.
  • Validate design through prototype, pre-production and first-of-kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analysis through each step and updating design and documentation.
  • Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
  • Ability to provide support for manufacturing activities for the new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
  • Be a leader within the product development team as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
