Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in consumer product design.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting process validation studies and proof-of-concept display system builds, and working closely with external partners to support technology deployment and product development using computer-aided design tools (e.g., NX, Creo, or Solidworks).
  • Experience shipping multiple consumer products and with manufacturing methods used in consumer products.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers on part manufacturing and final assembly, including onsite factory support.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical components (audio, display, antenna, etc.), waterproofing, thermals, grounding, or product development lead tolerance analysis, gauge R&R activities supporting product scalability.

Responsibilities

  • Design complex subsystems or multiple individual parts from concept to production, including fixtures to enable automation of high precision assembly processes.
  • Collaborate with suppliers of subsystems and/or individual parts throughout the design and manufacturing process.
  • Drive end-to-end discussions on system assembly process down-selection, prototyping, equipment and tooling needs for high precision assembly meeting mechanical, optical and reliability requirements.
  • Identify the root cause of design, manufacturing, or reliability issues and develop corrective actions.
  • Travel to developing builds to oversee mechanical validation, design, and assembly (10-20%).
  • Balance design considerations such as functionality, sustainability, reliability, human factors, manufacturability, and aesthetics.
  • Collaborate with Joint Development Manufacturing (JDM) teams supporting part design.
  • Design for technical depth and innovative ideas.
  • Solve issues associated with the product development path using creativity and smart designs.
