About The Position

Fama is designing the next generation of its AI-based screening products and is seeking a senior practitioner from the background screening industry to collaborate with internal product managers as a domain expert and design partner. This is a part-time contract engagement where the focus is on providing judgment and insights from an operator's perspective to help product managers refine problem definitions, challenge assumptions, and review their work. The role does not involve owning the roadmap, backlog, or delivery, and has no direct reports. Fama is particularly interested in individuals who have managed screening operations without a formal product title, valuing firsthand operational experience.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in the background screening industry, with a deep understanding of workflows, vocabulary, and economics.
  • Experience owning or managing components of case fulfillment, review, escalation, or disputes.
  • Close experience with the work, whether in a consumer reporting agency, a screening technology vendor, an applicant tracking system with a screening integration, or a large employer's screening operation.
  • Practical knowledge of the regulatory landscape, particularly FCRA compliance as it relates to workflow, as well as state and local regulations.
  • Structured thinking, capable of breaking down complex operational realities and articulating critical aspects.
  • A grounded perspective on AI product design, approaching demonstrations with a critical mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Current or recent experience at a background screening firm in operations leadership, product management, or compliance.
  • Direct responsibility for a screening operations team or for quality assurance within one.
  • A broad understanding of various screening check types.
  • Experience in product management.
  • Involvement with PBSA or a comparable industry organization.
  • Previous consulting or advisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product managers to define new product initiatives and provide candid feedback.
  • Offer an operator's viewpoint on background screening processes, highlighting manual effort, delays, and real costs.
  • Identify compliance and workflow constraints that designs must respect.
  • Review requirements, specifications, and prototypes as an industry expert.
  • Help Fama understand how screening firms and their customers evaluate and purchase new technology.
