Product Compliance Specialist, United States

Jellycat•Minneapolis, MN
•$85,000 - $110,000

About The Position

Jellycat is a privately owned, design-led gift brand headquartered in London, creating products in soft toys, accessories, baby products, and books for a growing global customer base. As Jellycat continues to grow in North America, the Product Compliance Specialist will implement, maintain, and improve US product compliance processes within the company’s global compliance framework for imported toys and maternity products. The role emphasizes proactive risk prevention, complex compliance issue resolution, and process optimization rather than routine administrative or document-filling work. The specialist will collaborate with internal teams, overseas factories, suppliers, external partners, and relevant authorities to identify and mitigate product compliance risks, support escalation and corrective action, and help maintain stable import operations. The role covers product compliance throughout development, testing, production, labelling, import, and launch; product safety and restricted-substance audits; regulatory monitoring and state-specific registrations; and the creation of traceable compliance archives and standardized processes.

Requirements

  • Experience in product compliance, quality compliance, or cross-border import compliance in the soft toy, maternity, textile, or consumer goods industry.
  • Proven experience managing end-to-end compliance systems for consumer goods imported into the US market.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable US federal and state requirements for toys, maternity products, and textiles, including CPSC, CPSIA, ASTM toy safety requirements, Children's Product Certificates, US customs and import requirements, product labelling, Proposition 65, state chemical restrictions, and product registration requirements.
  • Comprehensive understanding of third-party testing requirements, CPSC compliance, state-specific regulations, and market supervision.
  • Ability to independently audit complex product labels; review test reports and certification documents; verify material and chemical safety risks; manage state registration requirements; and resolve complex US import, product safety, and compliance issues.
  • Ability to develop and maintain US-specific compliance standards, documentation, and processes in collaboration with the wider Product Compliance team.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and overseas teams, coordinate technical compliance matters with external partners and relevant authorities, and escalate material issues appropriately.
  • Strong project management, multi-task prioritization, and problem-resolution skills, with capabilities in risk review and process optimization.
  • Meticulous, responsible, highly sensitive to compliance risks, and skilled in problem analysis, summarization, and systematic implementation.
  • Systematic thinking, a growth mindset, and the ability to improve processes rather than focus only on routine compliance execution.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Design, Supply Chain, Quality, Product, and US Commercial teams throughout the product lifecycle to embed US compliance requirements during early development and communicate them across testing, production, and labelling.
  • Drive corrective-action processes for non-compliance issues with relevant teams and suppliers, ensuring requirements are met before production, import, and product launch.
  • Ensure US requirements for product safety testing, certification, labelling, state-specific requirements, registrations, and applicable warnings are incorporated into product development and launch processes.
  • Conduct product safety audits against applicable US requirements and ensure products meet relevant CPSC, CPSIA, ASTM, and Canadian product safety requirements.
  • Oversee restricted substances, including lead, phthalates, PFAS, and other applicable federal and state chemical restrictions, and help ensure products meet market access and child safety requirements.
  • Monitor and respond to saferproducts.com and Health Canada reports.
  • Monitor changes to US federal and state laws, sampling regulations, and compliance standards for toys, maternity products, textiles, chemicals, and consumer products.
  • Maintain internal compliance specifications, state regulatory matrices, and risk lists to identify regulatory changes and potential compliance gaps.
  • Oversee applicable state-specific registrations, licenses, law-label requirements, and product restrictions, including Pennsylvania stuffed toy registration numbers.
  • Monitor California Proposition 65 requirements, including chemical restrictions, warnings, and enforcement developments, and assess and incorporate regulatory changes into compliance processes.
  • Build and optimize traceable, full-lifecycle compliance archives and standardized SOPs for testing, certification, import clearance, product registration, and regulatory documentation.
  • Prioritize and manage high-volume, multi-category US compliance tasks; oversee new-product compliance approvals and existing-product reviews; and drive major risk rectification and standards updates to support import and launch schedules.
  • Maintain accurate, accessible records for test reports, CPCs, product registrations, state requirements, Proposition 65 assessments, labels, regulatory approvals, and other applicable compliance documents.
  • Collaborate with overseas teams and external partners, coordinate technical compliance matters with relevant authorities, and escalate material issues appropriately.
  • Summarize compliance problems, optimize processes, and develop and maintain US-specific compliance standards, documentation, and processes in collaboration with the wider Product Compliance team.
  • Proactively follow federal and state regulatory updates and implement internal changes and corrective actions with forward-looking risk assessment.
