About The Position

Reporting to the Product Management team, the Product Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that ChemTreat's water treatment chemical products comply with all applicable federal, state, and international laws, regulations, and standards. This role develops and implements compliance procedures for new chemical regulations, maintains existing programs, and serves as the regulatory subject matter expert across the organization. This position is based at our Glen Allen, VA office and requires a regular onsite presence of 4 days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of chemical compliance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical hazard communication requirements (OSHA, GHS, Safety Data Sheets).
  • Familiarity with FDA requirements for chemical additives and international equivalents.
  • Knowledge of EPA-registered pesticide requirements (FIFRA) and international equivalents.
  • Experience with chemical inventory regulations and import/export compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate complex regulations into practical guidance for diverse internal and external audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Performing product hazard classification in accordance with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), including authoring Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and product labels.
  • Conducting regulatory reviews on new and existing chemical raw materials and finished products across multiple frameworks (chemical inventories, hazard communication, environmental, import/export, transportation, and state restrictions).
  • Reading, interpreting, and communicating state, national, and international chemical regulations to customers, vendors, sales, R&D, operations, and back-office teams.
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining compliance procedures, policies, and programs as regulations evolve.
  • Preparing and filing required regulatory reports, applications, and notifications.
  • Serving as the compliance representative on cross-functional project teams.
  • Responding to regulatory agency inquiries and supporting manufacturing lines when nonconformances arise.
  • Assisting customers with complex compliance questions while maintaining excellent service and strong relationships.
  • Applying continuous improvement principles to enhance compliance processes and documentation.
