About The Position

The Product Compliance IMDS Specialist I oversees product, environmental, and chemical compliance with respect to various international laws, regulations, standards, and relevant customer specifications, providing corporate support through the Legal department. This position requires on-site work at a Gentex facility and is not eligible for remote work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field with a strong emphasis on chemical substance regulations.
  • 5+ years professional experience in IMDS, Environmental, or Chemical Compliance Product Regulatory roles.
  • Deep and comprehensive understanding of a wide range of global chemical regulations (e.g., TSCA, REACH, RoHS, GHS, CLP, country-specific chemical control laws).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Smartsheet.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and deadlines; ability to work independently, stay organized, and prioritize multiple tasks; flexibility to adapt to current and future responsibilities.
  • Ability to travel on occasion.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience utilizing online resources to research applicable rules and regulations, as well as pertinent standards for direction and guidance.
  • Prior service on Product Compliance and/or Regulatory Committees.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply international, federal, state, and local regulations related to chemical substances (e.g., TSCA, REACH, RoHs, GHS, CLP).
  • Maintain environmental product compliance tools (e.g., IMDS, CDX, Assent).
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on chemical product regulatory compliance and provide guidance on complex international chemical regulations.
  • In partnership with in-house legal counsel, understand and analyze regulatory specifications for all Gentex industries including automotive, aerospace, medical, fire protection, and consumer products for U.S. and other global markets.
  • Educate engineering and program management teams on regulatory requirements relating to all products.
  • Assist with OEM and governmental regulatory and environmental surveys and questionnaires relating to product compliance.
  • Support regulatory inquiries, compliance document reviews, and communicate with impacted teams.
  • Analyze Engineering Change Orders (ECO) relating to product changes and make recommendations for compliance as appropriate.
  • Assist with maintaining the latest revisions of regulations, standards, codes and customer specifications.
  • Perform ad-hoc compliance assignments delegated by Product Compliance Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.
