About The Position

The Producer Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of monthly milk payments to producers, monthly transportation payments to milk carriers, and monthly billing of milk sales to customers. This role manages complex accounting inputs—including milk volumes, component testing, lab analyses, and producer deductions—while ensuring strict compliance with Federal Milk Marketing Orders. The Specialist also supports broader financial operations by reviewing general ledger reconciliation of monthly milk accounting, validating data integrity, and assisting with operational and financial reporting. This position plays a critical role in supporting Select Milk Producers, Inc.’s commitment to transparency, clean data, and operational excellence.

Requirements

Minimum of three years of accounting‑related experience required; dairy industry experience preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Excellent problem‑solving abilities and critical‑thinking skills.
High level of professionalism with the ability to manage confidential information.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to convey complex information clearly.
Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Experience with ERP systems preferred.
Knowledge of Ever.ag or similar milk‑accounting platforms preferred.

Responsibilities

Milk Accounting Calculate and validate monthly producer payments, including milk weights, component tests, Federal Order pricing, and quality‑based adjustments.
Calculate and validate monthly customer billing, including milk weights, component tests, additional billing requirements and federal order compliance.
Calculate and validate monthly transportation payments, including lane specific costs and fuel surcharge.
Confirm accuracy of payment formulas and regulatory compliance prior to issuing payments.
Conduct due‑diligence reviews to ensure all data entry and processing tasks are completed correctly.
Data Management & Integrity Import, reconcile, and validate lab results, load/route identifiers, producer deductions, and supporting documentation.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to milk/component weights or accounting system data.
Uphold the organization's clean‑data standards by ensuring accurate, timely, and complete data across systems.
Compliance, Reporting & Analysis Ensure compliance with Federal Milk Marketing Orders, internal controls, and established accounting policies.
Prepare and support operational, financial, and milk accounting reports for management, auditors, and various state and federal offices.
Analyze milk accounting trends and identify opportunities for process improvements.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration Assist accounting personnel with general ledger review and reconciliation.
Support leadership with producer inquiries, resolving payment issues with professionalism and accuracy.
Contribute to continuous‑improvement efforts aligned with Select Milk’s vision for operational excellence.
Leadership & Support Provide operational support to other finance staff and cross‑departmental teams, though the role has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
