About The Position

The Produce Sales Associate provides a pleasant and efficient Produce Department experience by actively engaging guests and delivering hospitality and professional service. The role supports Yoke’s mission and values, helps promote sales and company growth, and contributes to a welcoming atmosphere and shared team success. The associate serves guests, recommends products and promotions, handles special requests, maintains and merchandises produce, and operates department equipment safely. The position also supports new associates through mentoring and follows applicable workplace safety, food-handling, sanitation, and guest-service requirements. There are no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED, or one to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; and communicate effectively and pleasantly with guests, vendors, and associates.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations using American money and units of weight and volume.
Ability to apply common-sense understanding to written or oral instructions and manage problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Meet the state minimum requirements to work with a baler, trash compactor, or other Produce Department equipment and tools.
Valid State Food Handlers Permit.
Valid Driver’s License or State I.D. Card.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including prolonged standing; walking; reaching, handling, and other listed movements; and lifting or moving up to 10 pounds continuously, 25 pounds frequently, and 50 pounds occasionally.
Follow safety expectations, use required protective equipment, and report accidents within 24 hours.

Responsibilities

Report for assigned shifts on time and regularly, communicate clearly, and be prepared to perform assigned duties safely and provide excellent service.
Promote sales through guest discussions, product recommendations, and information about current promotions and services.
Greet guests and explain Produce Department features, product information, and services; assist with special requests, sampling, product replacement, or refunds as appropriate.
Perform department tasks such as opening and closing, culling, straightening, merchandising, posting ads and signage, rotating and stacking products, touring the department, setting baskets and racks, and cleaning shelves, bins, tables, and coolers.
Operate department equipment correctly and safely, including the com-line, phone, scales, shrink wrapper, pallet jack, knives, baler, and trash compactor.
Communicate and fulfill guests’ special order requests accurately and promptly.
Mentor new associates and associates who are new to the department, supporting a positive learning environment.
Look for ways to make guests happy and use available service practices to improve their experience.
Follow local, state, federal, and company rules and policies for workplace safety, food handling, sanitation, housekeeping, and guest services.
Participate in the department’s accident reduction plan by monitoring for trip, slip, and fall hazards and following applicable equipment, emergency, food-safety, and storage procedures.
