The Produce Manager directs the operation of the produce department, including supervising and training personnel. The Produce Manager champions company and division customer service programs, handles customer relations positively, and promotes a philosophy of personalized service in the produce department. They supervise, motivate, direct, train, and participate in the hiring of produce personnel, monitor associate performance, and recommend personnel actions. Scheduling is managed to ensure adequate coverage and service levels while meeting budgetary objectives. Daily inspections of produce sections are conducted to ensure compliance with product freshness and quality standards, including rotating products, discarding outdated or spoiled items, and maintaining stock conditions, sanitation, and safety requirements. The role involves assisting with all produce duties such as receiving, cleaning, trimming, cutting, watering, and displaying. Implementing effective promotional and seasonal displays, controlling shrink and expenses, and accurately completing required paperwork are key responsibilities. Ordering, checking, receiving, and controlling inventory to ensure adequate levels, product quality, eye appeal, and freshness are crucial. The Produce Manager ensures proper merchandising by understanding and implementing schematics, merchandising advertised items, following proper signing procedures, and monitoring product flow, while complying with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies. They also check competitors for comparisons on prices, product variety, and merchandising procedures. Customer assistance includes making product suggestions and engaging in suggestive selling. Ensuring cleanliness and sanitation of the sales floor, work area, cooler, equipment, and cases is essential. The role involves answering incoming calls, resolving customer complaints, and assisting with emergency procedures. Training and instructing associates on proper work duties, monitoring performance, and resolving associate complaints are also part of the responsibilities. Maintaining confidentiality of associate, store sales, and company information is required. All job duties must be performed safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity.
