The Produce Manager directs the operation of the produce department, including supervising and training personnel. This role ensures customer service and product quality, freshness, safety, and selection. The position champions company and division customer service programs, handles customer relations positively, and promotes a philosophy of personalized service in the produce department. Key responsibilities include supervising daily functions to achieve customer service, sales, and profit objectives, as well as motivating, directing, training, and participating in the hiring of produce personnel. The manager monitors associate performance, schedules personnel, and conducts daily inspections of produce sections to ensure product freshness and quality. This role also involves rotating products, discarding outdated or spoiled items, maintaining stock conditions, and adhering to sanitation and safety requirements. Assisting with produce duties such as receiving, cleaning, trimming, cutting, watering, and displaying products, as well as implementing effective promotional and seasonal displays, are also crucial. The manager controls shrink and expenses, accurately completes and monitors daily logs, purchase reports, sales and labor reports, and other required paperwork. Ordering, checking, receiving, and controlling inventory to ensure adequate levels, product quality, eye appeal, and freshness are essential. The position also involves checking for and preventing the sale of outdated or spoiled products, taking periodic inventories, processing administrative paperwork, and maintaining accurate department records. Maintaining and organizing the Produce Department work area and cooler, ensuring quality, freshness, and quantity standards are met, and proper merchandising of product by understanding and implementing schematics, merchandising of advertised items, proper signing procedures, and monitoring product flow are key. Compliance with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, company policies, and health and food safety standards is required. The manager creates effective promotional and seasonal displays, checks competitors for comparisons, assists customers with product suggestions and suggestive selling, and makes intercom announcements. Ensuring cleanliness and sanitation of the sales floor, work area, cooler, equipment, wet boxes, and cases, as well as assisting with answering and responding to incoming calls appropriately, receiving and resolving customer complaints, and assisting with implementing emergency procedures are also part of the role. The manager ensures all associates are trained and instructed properly, monitors associate performance, resolves associate complaints, and maintains confidentiality concerning associates, store sales, and other company information. The role is responsible for performing all job duties and responsibilities safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity. Other necessary and required duties may also be assigned.
