About The Position

The Produce Manager is responsible for leading all produce department operations to achieve sales, freshness, inventory, and customer service goals. This role ensures high-quality product standards, operational excellence, effective merchandising, and associate development while complying with food safety and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, coach, and develop produce associates to meet performance, freshness, and service expectations.
  • Schedule labor effectively to align with delivery, stocking, and peak sales periods while controlling labor costs.
  • Maintain accountability for attendance, productivity, food safety, and policy compliance.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management of department associates.
  • Oversee daily produce operations including ordering, receiving, stocking, rotation, trimming, and display execution.
  • Ensure the highest standards of freshness, quality, and presentation for all produce items.
  • Monitor and manage shrink, spoilage, and damages through proper handling and rotation practices.
  • Ensure proper storage, temperature control, and handling of perishable products.
  • Execute merchandising standards, pricing, signage, promotions, and seasonal transitions accurately.
  • Monitor department sales, shrink, labor, and key performance metrics; develop action plans to improve results.
  • Identify opportunities to increase sales through effective displays, seasonal features, and product assortment.
  • Control department expenses, supplies, and waste to meet financial targets.
  • Ensure the produce department is clean, attractive, fully stocked, and customer-ready at all times.
  • Address customer questions, special requests, and concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Model and reinforce exceptional customer service behaviors with associates.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, health, and workplace safety standards.
  • Maintain proper logs, documentation, and execution of regulatory and company requirements.
  • Partner with Store Leadership and other department managers to support storewide goals and initiatives.
