About The Position

The Produce Manager directs the operation of the produce department, ensuring customer satisfaction through excellent product quality, freshness, safety, and selection. This role involves supervising and training department personnel, managing daily operations to meet sales and profit objectives, and championing the company's customer service programs. The Produce Manager is responsible for maintaining department standards, implementing effective merchandising strategies, controlling shrink and expenses, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of all job duties within the Produce Department including trimming, cutting, displaying, watering, building produce displays, rotating and discarding outdated or spoiled product.

  • Bends, stoops and reaches frequently and occasionally climbs ladders.
  • Pushes and pulls fully loaded hand trucks, six-wheel carts and pallet jacks.
  • Performs repetitious arm movement to prepare and package products.
  • Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination.
  • Mental alertness necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures.
  • Operates computer software and electronic ordering devices to order products, plan sales, input inventory and schedules, and print labels.
  • Operates scales, wrappers, compactors and garbage disposals.
  • Utilizes cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Utilizes knives and safety cutters.
  • Requires use of latex gloves.
  • Extensive knowledge of profit and loss statements.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Scheduled hours will vary.
  • Good attendance is required.
  • Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to equipment and work aids necessary to perform job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Champion Company and Division customer service programs.
  • Handle customer relations positively and resolve complaints effectively.
  • Promote personalized service in the produce department.
  • Supervise the day-to-day functions of the produce department to achieve customer service, sales, and profit objectives.
  • Supervise, motivate, direct, train, and participate in the hiring of produce personnel.
  • Monitor associate performance and recommend personnel actions.
  • Schedule personnel to ensure adequate coverage and meet budgetary objectives.
  • Conduct daily inspections of produce sections and take corrective measures for freshness and quality.
  • Rotate products, discard outdated or spoiled product, and maintain sanitation and safety requirements.
  • Assist with produce duties such as receiving, cleaning, trimming, cutting, watering, and displaying.
  • Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Control shrink and expenses.
  • Complete and monitor daily log sheets, purchase reports, sales and labor reports, and other required paperwork.
  • Maintain records on ad item movement.
  • Order, check, receive, and control inventory to ensure adequate levels, quality, eye appeal, and freshness.
  • Prevent the sale of out-dated or spoiled products.
  • Take periodic inventories and maintain accurate department records.
  • Maintain and organize the Produce Department work area and cooler.
  • Ensure produce quality, freshness, and quantity standards are met.
  • Ensure proper merchandising of product by understanding and implementing schematics, merchandising advertised items, proper signing procedures, and monitoring product flow.
  • Comply with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, and Company policies.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local health and food safety standards.
  • Create effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Check competitors for comparisons on prices, product variety, and merchandising procedures.
  • Assist customers by making product suggestions and engaging in suggestive selling.
  • Make intercom announcements.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of the sales floor, work area, cooler, equipment, wet boxes, and cases.
  • Answer and respond to incoming calls appropriately.
  • Receive and resolve customer complaints, reporting to the Store Director as appropriate.
  • Assist with implementing emergency procedures for equipment and computer software malfunctions.
  • Ensure all associates are trained and instructed in proper work duties.
  • Monitor associate performance and report observations to the Store Director.
  • Resolve associate complaints and report to the Store Director as appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality of associate, store sales, and other Company information.
  • Perform all job duties and responsibilities safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity.
  • Perform other necessary and required duties.
