About The Position

This role involves cleaning, trimming, packaging, processing, rotating, and stocking produce. The Produce Clerk is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and contributing to a positive and collaborative team environment. The position requires working a schedule that meets business needs, which may change seasonally or due to staffing requirements, and maintaining reliable attendance. The clerk will also shift tasks as priorities change, demonstrate a solutions-oriented approach to problems, and represent company values, including a commitment to diversity and inclusion. They will work cooperatively and positively with team members, customers, and vendors, fostering a respectful workplace. Giving and receiving constructive feedback is expected, along with conserving company resources and adhering to company mission, vision, and values, including sustainability programs. The role also involves adhering to work and food safety policies, maintaining store cleanliness, informing management of any issues, and demonstrating sound judgment in job-related tasks and interactions. Requirements

  • Must complete and maintain any required food and work safety trainings/certifications.

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience preferred.
  • Previous produce experience in a retail, farm, or grocery environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares Produce department for store opening and closing.
  • Assists customers with product selection, shares product knowledge, and makes recommendations based on customer needs.
  • Cleans, trims, packages, prices, rotates, and stocks produce department products.
  • Builds displays and arranges department products for attractive presentations, highlighting featured/unique/seasonal items.
  • Stocks, rotates, and faces products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise, checking quality, count, and condition, and communicating any issues to management and the merchandising team.
  • Completes customer special orders thoroughly and provides follow-through as needed.
  • Maintains cleanliness, organization, and rotation of all areas, products, and supplies.
  • Maintains accurate pricing and signage that meet merchandising standards.
  • Complies with all company organic standards.
  • Understands and complies with specific shift guidelines, tasks, and responsibilities.
  • Maintains awareness of current ads, promotions, holidays, and events.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with products in the department, including labeling, recommended uses, and vendor/supplier information, with a willingness to continue learning.
  • Notifies department manager or Manager On Duty of any situations relating to customer service, safety, productivity, security, or any other situation that may have an adverse effect on the store.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
