About The Position

Cleans, trims, packages, processes, rotates and stocks produce. Provides exceptional customer service and contributes to a positive and collaborative team environment. This role requires availability between 10 AM and 10 PM, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, with potential for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. The position involves preparing the produce department for opening and closing, assisting customers with product selection, sharing product knowledge, and making recommendations. Responsibilities include cleaning, trimming, packaging, pricing, rotating, and stocking produce, as well as building attractive displays and ensuring accurate pricing and signage. The role also involves receiving and unloading merchandise, maintaining cleanliness and organization, and complying with company organic standards. The Produce Clerk must stay aware of current ads, promotions, holidays, and events, and demonstrate familiarity with department products. They are responsible for notifying management of any issues related to customer service, safety, productivity, or security. The position requires the ability to work in a grocery store environment with potential for wet/slippery surfaces, temperature extremes (cooler/freezer), and exposure to allergens/chemicals.   • Medium/Heavy means the worker has the ability to occasionally (1 – 33%) lift 100 pounds while participating in a team lift and has the ability to frequently (34 – 66%) lift, carry or pull objects weighing 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience preferred.
  • Previous produce experience in a retail, farm, or grocery environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares Produce department for store opening and closing.

  • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise; checks quality, count and condition.
  • Communicates any issues to management and merchandising team.
  • Completes customer special orders thoroughly and provides follow-through as needed.
  • Maintains cleanliness, organization and rotation of all areas, products and supplies.
  • Maintains accurate pricing and signage that meet merchandising standards.
  • Complies with all company organic standards.
  • Understands and complies with specific shift guidelines, tasks and responsibilities.
  • Maintains awareness of current ads, promotions, holidays and events.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with products in the department, including labeling, recommended uses, and vendor/supplier information with willingness to continue learning.
  • Notifies department manager or Manager On Duty of any situations relating to customer service, safety, productivity, security or any other situation that may have an adverse effect on the store.
