About The Position

The Produce Clerk is responsible for working closely with all produce associates to ensure company policies and procedures are followed, department goals are met, and associates' needs are addressed. Produce Associates are dedicated to providing a high standard of care for quality, nutritious fruits and vegetables, ensuring they are fresh and delicious for the communities served.

Requirements

  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with customers and all personnel.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle a diverse crew in a highly stressful environment.
  • Complete understanding of all safety requirements and company safety policies.
  • Ability to apply on-the-job safety training to recognize and react to possible safety hazards.
  • Proper training and knowledge of slicers, proper lifting techniques, trash compactor, and baler.
  • Knowledge of the retail food business.
  • Thorough knowledge of perishable department operations.
  • Merchandising skills.
  • Ability to make timely and effective decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Provides customer service to guests, assisting them with finding items and taking orders or special requests.
  • Answers the telephone and assists callers using proper phone etiquette.
  • Addresses guest concerns and resolves issues when a guest is not satisfied with the service or product received, escalating to the Produce Department Manager when necessary.
  • Stocks and maintains product levels, filling all items on display.
  • Rotates products using the first-in, first-out method and follows display standards.
  • Ensures the sales floor is clean and tidy, with no messes or spills.
  • Maintains Produce supplies (e.g., roll bags, twist ties).
  • Completes log sheets, including taking temperatures regularly, filling out rotation sheets daily, and recording shrink daily.
  • Maintains the Produce Cooler by rotating items using the first-in, first-out method and keeping it clean and organized.
  • Orders some product, such as dips, spices, and herbs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular, timely attendance and provides adequate notice for occasional absences.
