The Produce Assistant is responsible for assisting the Produce Manager in the successful operation and profitability of the produce department. This role involves providing excellent customer service, maintaining department standards, assisting with inventory and ordering, and ensuring the freshness and presentation of produce. Key duties include setting and maintaining the department daily, culling, crisping, rotating, and properly handling produce. The assistant ensures that only certified organic produce is ordered and received, and that all products meet company standards. They are also responsible for cleaning equipment, receiving orders, and handling special orders. Training and monitoring department personnel, conducting demos, and addressing performance issues with the department manager are also part of the role. Additionally, the Produce Assistant will handle register functions, including backup cashiering, managing returns, addressing complaints, and covering shifts. Maintaining safety and security, answering customer questions with product knowledge, and utilizing email and IS programs are essential. Completing closing cash processes may be required in the absence of other qualified employees. The position requires working a schedule based on store needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with a commitment of five days and 40 hours per week, including mandatory store meetings. This role has limited Manager on Duty functions but is not the overall store Manager on Duty. All employees are expected to be hands-on and contribute to the company's success.
