EOE M/F/D/V The Talen Energy Supply Chain organization has an opening for a Sourcing Specialist. This position supports Talen's plants located in Lawrenceburg, Indiana; Darby Township, Ohio; and Waterford, Ohio. The person filling this role may be based at or near one of the plants or in Columbus, Ohio, and will support all three facilities virtually and with occasional day travel. The purpose of this job is to manage the acquisition of a wide variety of corporate requirements and issue contractual commitments on behalf of the company. This position will be responsible for executing procurement activities for capital projects as well as negotiating contracts for materials, equipment, and services during project development through construction. In addition, the position will be responsible for procuring standard / off-the-shelf and made to order parts for the plant(s), at the best evaluated total cost of ownership, and assuring quality and schedule compliance in accordance with the end user’s requirements. This position will also assist in managing inventory (determines appropriate stocking levels, how much to buy, and where to maintain the inventory), administers contracts or purchase orders, conducts negotiations, performs market, price and financial analysis, develops relationships and drives continuous improvement and productivity with suppliers and customers. This position works independently with minimal supervision and may provide guidance and direction to other Talen employees in support of high quality, timely and cost-effective resource acquisition activities.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of materials and/or services buying experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to interpret internal or external business issues and recommend solutions/best practices.

  • Must be able to work independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations.

  • Off-hour / after-hour and weekend availability as necessary under certain circumstances.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States, and not require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. TN, H1B status), now or in the future.
  • At least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the acquisition of a wide variety of corporate requirements and issue contractual commitments on behalf of the company.
  • Execute procurement activities for capital projects.
  • Negotiate contracts for materials, equipment, and services during project development through construction.
  • Procure standard / off-the-shelf and made to order parts for the plant(s), at the best evaluated total cost of ownership, and assuring quality and schedule compliance in accordance with the end user’s requirements.
  • Assist in managing inventory (determines appropriate stocking levels, how much to buy, and where to maintain the inventory).
  • Administer contracts or purchase orders.
  • Conduct negotiations.
  • Perform market, price and financial analysis.
  • Develop relationships and drive continuous improvement and productivity with suppliers and customers.
  • Work with Talen’s Legal Department to identify and incorporate appropriate levels of commercial protection and conduct negotiations to achieve the optimal business results for the company when applicable.
  • Perform supply chain and logistics functions, which may include, but are not limited to, material procurement – standard and made to order parts, production planning, inventory control, outsourcing, vendor selection, and distribution.
  • Analyze and develop company position on claims and disputes and subsequently consult with senior management to resolve/negotiate claims and disputes associated with complex procurements.
  • Manage the procurement process from specification/definition of need through issuing a purchase order/contract.
  • Evaluate sources of supply and develop optimal pricing methodology, warranty, and product/service performance requirements.
  • Utilize the most strategic sourcing method (RFP, RFQ, alliance, auction, blanket, contract, master service agreement, purchase order) to acquire the necessary products and services at the maximum level of savings.
  • Identify new sources of supply, and potentially acceptable new products/technologies.
  • Establish/maintain professional relationships with suppliers/partners, based on the highest ethical business practices as set forth in the Standards of Conduct and Integrity and Talen's Supply Chain Policies.
  • Analyze and evaluate the levels of inventory in support of the plant.
  • Determine and maintain appropriate stocking levels ($$$ or # of items) and identify the necessary warehousing locations while at the same time reducing Talen's inventory carrying costs.
  • Observe all plant and site safety rules and protocols.
