About The Position

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Procurement Agent. This role is responsible for processing assigned requisitions, analyzing, evaluating, and editing specifications to ensure compliance with MDT, state, and federal policies, laws, and regulations. The position determines and executes the proper procurement method and issues purchase orders or contracts. Responsibilities include contract monitoring throughout the life of the contract. The agent will provide technical assistance to contractors and MDT staff, and offer training on procurement policies, laws, and regulations to MDT staff. This position reports to the Procurement Section Supervisor and does not supervise others. It is part of a career ladder with advancement opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field, OR 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree (Level 1.1)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field, plus 2 years of experience in governmental purchasing or contract administration, or a related field (Level 2.1)
  • Knowledge of contract administration
  • Ability to learn state purchasing regulations and policies
  • Skills in writing, evaluating, checking, and editing plans, specifications, contract provisions, and other details
  • Skill in analyzing plans and specifications
  • Skill in communicating technical information with widely varied audiences
  • Ability to establish and effectively maintain files and documentation pertaining to purchasing activity
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
