About The Position

The Processing Manager is responsible for leading daily operations of the St. Vincent Center processing department and Food Bank support areas, including donation intake, presorting, pricing, production flow, recycling, salvage recovery, merchandise movement, and warehouse coordination. This role oversees processing staff and volunteers, supports daily production, recycling, and product flow goals, and helps ensure safe, efficient, and mission-driven operations that support revenue objectives, volunteer engagement, and Catholic Charities’ mission of Bringing Hope to Life. The Processing Manager serves as a member of the St. Vincent Center leadership team and contributes to operational planning, workflow development, revenue generation, and overall organizational success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Two years of leadership or operational experience preferred, including experience in donation processing, warehouse operations, stockroom management, pricing, logistics, recycling, retail, workflow management, or staff productivity oversight.
  • Experience in a thrift store, nonprofit, or mission-driven environment preferred.
  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership, team building, communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to oversee production workflows, manage multiple priorities, and maintain productivity and quality standards in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and improve systems, workflows, and operational processes.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments, coordinate shared resources, and adapt to operational systems involving donation flow, logistics, recycling, salvage recovery, and material handling.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to learn and use Microsoft Office, Excel, email platforms, POS systems, and operational tracking software to accurately maintain production data, metrics, inventory information, and department records.
  • Completion of forklift operator training and evaluation.
  • Valid driver’s license and required minimum liability insurance for Washington State.
  • Must be deemed insurable as determined by Catholic Charities’ liability insurance provider.
  • Being cleared by criminal background check and fingerprinting when required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hiring, scheduling, supervision, coaching, training, mentoring, and annual evaluations in accordance with agency policy to support department performance.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented culture through regular communication of goals, expectations, updates, and priorities.
  • Establish and monitor production goals to ensure daily, weekly, and monthly targets are achieved.
  • Analyze workflow, staffing needs, throughput, and inventory movement to identify challenges and implement solutions.
  • Develop efficient systems that support productivity, organization, accountability, and revenue generation.
  • Partner with St. Vincent Center leadership to support long-term planning and growth.
  • Oversee core processing functions, including donation intake, presorting, pricing, recycling preparation, and preparing merchandise for the sales floor.
  • Ensure donors are welcomed respectfully, including assisting with unloading, collecting donor information, and issuing receipts.
  • Maintain clean, safe, organized, and efficient receiving, sorting, recycling, warehouse, storage, staging, equipment, and workstation areas in the processing department and the Food Bank.
  • Identify quality merchandise, provide pricing guidance, and ensure consistent sorting, pricing, and quality control standards to support price-per-piece, production, and revenue goals.
  • Lead and monitor daily production, processing, recycling, product flow, workflow, productivity, and inventory movement to reduce backlog and support timely sales floor replenishment.
  • Identify and implement improvements to staff coordination, workflow management, efficiency, product recovery, waste reduction, and department processes.
  • Oversee recycling and salvage operations, including textile baling, cardboard recovery, metal recycling, rag-out processing, and other material recovery efforts.
  • Ensure recyclable and salvage materials are properly sorted, stored, processed, staged, and prepared for transport according to operational and vendor requirements.
  • Coordinate material movement, storage, shipment, equipment use, recycling output, and recovery processes to support workflow efficiency, revenue generation, and waste reduction.
  • Coordinate logistics involving shared facilities, parking areas, forklifts, delivery vehicles, storage spaces, material handling resources, Food Bank scheduling, delivery coordination, and communication between departments.
  • Assist with donation pickup operations, transportation coordination, movement of donated goods, and expansion of donation pickup opportunities.
  • Support community partnerships, donation acquisition opportunities, and local business relationships that increase donated product flow and operational support.
  • Oversee efficient product storage, material organization, inventory flow, and rotation of donated goods, recyclable materials, food products, and operational supplies.
  • Partner with Catholic Charities Volunteer Programs and community agencies to support, train, and oversee volunteers in the processing department and Food Bank.
  • Ensure volunteers are engaged in meaningful, productive roles that support operational needs, store success, and the mission of Catholic Charities.
  • Ensure compliance with agency safety procedures, standards, and risk management protocols.
  • Monitor safe operation, maintenance, cleanliness, organization, and readiness of department equipment, docks, pallet jacks, carts, forklifts, work areas, and storage systems.
  • Coordinate facility and operational needs with leadership to support safe and efficient department functionality.
  • Work closely with St. Vincent leadership and the retail team to support strong communication, teamwork, product flow, inventory movement, processing priorities, sales floor needs, stocking goals, and overall store operations.
  • Promote a positive, solutions-focused team environment built on communication, accountability, collaboration, and mutual support.
  • Support cross-training and teamwork between departments to maintain operational flexibility.
  • Represent Catholic Charities in a professional and mission-centered manner.
  • Participate in annual performance evaluations and perform other duties as assigned to support the success of St. Vincent Center.
