About The Position

Under the supervision of the Technical Services Librarian, the Processing Assistant splits their time between behind-the-scenes material preparation and public-facing service. This role is responsible for physically processing new library acquisitions and performing standard front-desk circulation duties.

Requirements

• High School diploma (or equivalent) with two years of similar library experience; OR any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient, welcoming demeanor and a commitment to excellent customer service.
• Solid computer literacy, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Proven ability to multi-task, stay organized, and remain flexible in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, bend, reach, stand for extended periods, and safely move a fully loaded library truck/cart throughout the building.

Nice To Haves

• Direct experience with the Evergreen ILS is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Preparing new books, media, and materials for circulation by applying labels, protective jackets, barcodes to books and other materials according to library standards.
• Assisting with minor material repairs and withdrawals.
• Performing standard Library Assistant duties, including check-ins, check-outs, holds, and managing museum pass reservations.
• Answering phone inquiries, assisting patrons with account questions, and providing a welcoming, positive experience at the service desk.
• Performing other duties of a similar nature and complexity as directed to ensure the efficient day-to-day operation of the library.
