About The Position

Sherwin-Williams is seeking a Corporate Process Safety Manager to support the Global Director of Process Safety and help lead the implementation of process safety strategies across global operations. This role will strengthen our Process Safety Management System by advancing best practices, reducing risk, ensuring compliance, and driving continuous improvement. The ideal candidate brings strategic vision, strong technical expertise, and collaborative leadership to enhance global safety performance and align initiatives with corporate goals. As a trusted partner to site leadership, this role promotes a proactive safety culture and consistent application of process safety standards across all regions. The position carries corporate responsibility for ensuring effective deployment of process safety technologies, management systems, and hazard‑assessment tools at all supported sites, working closely with Site and Plant Leadership, Regional EH&S Directors, Operations teams, and global functions such as Process Engineering, Process Automation, and Design & Construction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a physical science or engineering discipline.
  • 12+ years of experience in PSM-regulated facilities or within the chemical or coatings industry.
  • Strong expertise in batch processing, chemical process safety, process hazard analysis methods (e.g., What-If, HAZOP, Checklist), environmental capture and control systems, accident/incident investigation, PSM/RMP auditing, and EHS Management Systems.
  • Proven experience facilitating Process Hazard Analyses using HAZOP or equivalent methodologies.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing risk reduction strategies through design and engineering controls.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of general safety engineering principles.
  • Ability to engage senior leadership and influence decision-making at all organizational levels.
  • Capacity to manage high-stress situations, including investigations of serious incidents (injury, fatality), fires, explosions, and regulatory inquiries.
  • Working knowledge of RAGAGEP standards, including NFPA, ASME, API, ANSI, and IEC 61511.
  • Process Hazard Analysis Facilitator.
  • Process Safety Management Auditor.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Master’s degree in a physical science or engineering discipline.
  • Professional certifications such as Professional Engineer (P.E.), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Six Sigma, or expertise in Human Factors Engineering.
  • 15+ years of experience in PSM-regulated facilities or within the chemical or coatings industry.
  • International experience with global process safety standards, safety engineering practices, and hazard management.
  • Proficiency in advanced risk assessment methods, including conducting Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA).

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and sustain the Company’s Corporate Process Safety programs, including supporting global implementation, designing and executing risk-reduction initiatives, collaborating cross-functionally, and providing technical expertise on various processes and systems.
  • Stay current on regulations, recommending updates to company programs and processes to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
  • Drive audit and PHA closure by providing hands-on support to operational sites in addressing audit and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) findings, and developing and implementing solutions for EHS risk and compliance gaps.
  • Lead process safety initiatives, supporting projects involving process safety information, electrical classification documentation, SOP development, and Management of Change (MOC) requests.
  • Build organizational capability by coaching and mentoring site EHS professionals and engineers to strengthen competence in process safety, and serving as a facilitator for engineering solutions and health and safety risk reduction strategies.
  • Lead process safety audits, facilitate hazard analyses (HAZOPs, What-If Analyses), and support advanced studies like Facility Siting and consequence analyses.
  • Mentor and assure quality for PHA facilitators and perform quality assurance reviews of PHAs.
  • Interpret mechanical integrity data to assist sites in evaluating test results for equipment and piping integrity.
  • Participate in or lead process-related incident and accident investigations.
  • Exercise stop-work authority in the event of imminent danger to personnel or facilities.
  • Engage external expertise by identifying and recommending qualified safety engineering consulting firms when necessary.
  • Strengthen site competency in PSM through training, facilitation, and program implementation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and the regional/divisional authority on Process Safety Management.
  • Lead global standards and training, driving the development of Global EHS standards, delivering training programs, and providing audit support.
  • Review capital projects for guideline approval and risk mitigation.
  • Deliver specialized training for business segment leaders and employees responsible for process safety management.
  • Develop site competence among EHS and engineering leaders to facilitate PHAs and Process Safety Audits.
  • Support regional sites in developing and executing PSM self-assessments and annual action plans.
  • Approve safety system impairment requests to maintain operational integrity.
  • Ensure reactive chemical safety by verifying that each supported site maintains an effective Reactive Chemicals program.
  • Represent the company externally during regulatory inspections, inquiries, and due diligence processes related to Process Safety and Chemical Security.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance by assessing and verifying compliance with OSHA, EPA, and country-specific process safety management regulations.
  • Support certification efforts, assisting operations in preparing for process safety-related certifications, including VPP.
  • Maintain professional expertise by staying current with industry regulations and best practices through ongoing professional development and maintaining relevant certifications.
