Job Purpose: The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for supporting the safe design, operation, and continuous improvement of chemical and manufacturing processes. This role works in a supportive, team‑oriented environment, partnering closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, and EH&S to promote a strong safety culture, support safe process design and change management, and drive continuous improvement across all shifts.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or related technical discipline); safety or process focused coursework preferred
3+ years of experience in chemical manufacturing, process operations, or high hazard industrial environments
Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119) and related methodologies
Familiarity with machine and functional safety standards such as ISO 13849 and ANSI B11
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, equipment drawings, logic diagrams, and process documentation
Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations and agencies, including OSHA, EPA, and MADEP

Nice To Haves

Hands-on experience working directly with regulatory agencies on compliance, audits, or enforcement actions
Familiarity with ISO management systems, including ISO 14001 (Environmental), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety), and ISO 9001 (Quality)
Experience supporting Management of Change (MOC), Pre Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), or Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA)

Responsibilities

Engineer, implement, and sustain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems in partnership with Engineering and Manufacturing
Evaluate the effectiveness of existing safety programs, procedures, and engineered safeguards
Review and assess process and equipment designs to identify hazards and recommend improvements that reduce risk and enhance operability
Specify, design, and validate engineering controls, safeguards, and interlocks in compliance with applicable machine and process safety standards
Support capital projects by conducting safety reviews throughout the design and installation lifecycle (e.g., PSSR participation)
Develop and deliver technical training materials to promote compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
Lead and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) including HAZOP, What If, and other structured risk assessments
Interface directly with regulatory agencies and third-party auditors; support inspections and lead corrective actions in collaboration with cross functional teams
Provide ongoing technical safety support to operations to reinforce safe work practices and strengthen safety culture
Track incidents, near misses, and process safety events; perform root cause analyses; develop engineering based corrective actions; and communicate progress to stakeholders
