About The Position

Syensqo is seeking a Process Safety R&I Engineer to provide expertise in Process Safety for Research & Innovation projects, process development, engineering activities, and industrial operations. This role involves contributing to the development of safe, robust, and economically competitive processes and technologies by working closely with R&I, Engineering, Process Safety, and manufacturing teams. The engineer will use experimental approaches and engineering expertise to identify, characterize, and mitigate process hazards from early-stage development through industrial implementation. The position combines Process Safety engineering expertise with hands-on experimental work, requiring collaboration and travel between the Bristol, Pennsylvania site and the R&I center in Stamford, Connecticut.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience or strong technical knowledge in chemical/process safety, reaction engineering, process development or scale-up.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate experimental data into practical engineering recommendations.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in multidisciplinary and international teams.
  • Strong communication, scientific curiosity and commitment to safety and technical excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced degree is a plus.
  • Experience with Process Safety experimental techniques such as reaction calorimetry, adiabatic calorimetry, thermal stability, runaway reaction characterization, flammability or explosion testing is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Process Safety expertise to R&I projects, process development, scale-up, Engineering activities and manufacturing sites.
  • Define, execute and interpret experimental Process Safety studies to characterize chemical and process hazards and recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures.
  • Take technical ownership of assigned studies, ensuring high standards of scientific quality, safety and documentation.
  • Translate experimental results into practical recommendations supporting safe process design, scale-up and industrial implementation.
  • Develop and maintain Process Safety capabilities by identifying new methodologies, technologies, equipment and collaboration opportunities.
  • Capture and share Process Safety knowledge, best practices and lessons learned across R&I, Engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Actively contribute to internal and external Process Safety networks, collaborating with experts, universities, technical centers and equipment suppliers.
  • Understand and follow key Syensqo safety policies and procedures for the sites you’ll be working, including but not limited to emergency response, crisis management, evacuation guidelines, and proper housekeeping.
  • Know the location of first aid and emergency response equipment, chemicals, and chemical documentation.
  • Follow key Syensqo safety policies and procedures for the site and the labs.
  • Take action and report any unsafe act / condition / behavior.
  • Attend laboratory monthly safety training.
  • Tour and review safety equipment in the lab.
  • Be able to access and understand SDSs - preparing Lab Activity Checklists.
  • Wear appropriate PPE while in the laboratory.
  • Obtain advanced equipment or process specific safety training when necessary according to the specific dangers of present assignment.
