About The Position

The Process Safety Engineer III provides engineering expertise in support of Harvest Midstream’s process safety programs across company-wide assets. This role leads Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), supports capital projects, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and partners closely with Operations, Engineering, and EHS to reduce process safety risk.

Requirements

  • 6–10+ years of relevant oil & gas experience, with strong midstream exposure.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating PHAs.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA PSM; EPA RMP, and PHMSA familiarity preferred.
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineers license, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides process and process safety engineering expertise support to asset team personnel, including Foreman, Facility Engineers, and Operations.
  • Works with Facility Engineers and Operations to drive resolution of PHA recommendations, tracks PHA recommendations to closure, and communicates closure actions to affected personnel.
  • Supports implementation of the Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Accountable for Hazard Analysis (HazAn) within technical MOC process, including providing field training and facilitating MOC and project related HazAns.
  • Owns identification and investigation of process safety incidents and near misses and sharing of lessons learned.
  • Supports Facility Engineers and project teams on relief system design and update, including performing sizing calculations, resolving audit file recommendations, ensuring adequate relief system documentation, and implementing the Pressure Relief Device program.
  • Works directly with the Mechanical Integrity and Maintenance group to ensure relief devices are tested and maintained in accordance with applicable codes and company standards.
  • Evaluate alternative solutions to complex technical issues for relief equipment design, installation, and testing utilizing risk assessment and options analysis.
  • Owns implementation of Facility Siting process including coordinating and performing assessments.
  • Support Safety Critical Equipment identification process.
  • Supports and participates in internal and external process safety audits.
  • Performs / participates in due diligence for Acquisitions
  • Track, analyze, and report process safety KPIs.
  • Conduct risk assessments for new projects and facility modifications.
  • Support LOPA and SIL determination efforts.
  • Provide technical recommendations to mitigate high-consequence hazards.
  • Review inspection findings and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Assist in developing inspection intervals for critical equipment.
  • Review P&IDs, relief systems, and safety instrumented systems.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes (API, ASME, NFPA).
  • This position requires travel (up to 25%) to field facilities and other offices, as well as periodic work in outdoor and industrial facility environments, to validate field conditions and establish and maintain good working rapport with operations personnel.
  • Ability to be available 24 hours per day (infrequent but on call for questions, emergencies, etc.).
