Ergon Refining, Inc., in Vicksburg is currently looking for a Process Safety Engineer to develop, implement and maintain programs, procedures, work processes, tracking mechanisms and reporting associated with Process Safety Management (PSM) & Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs at Ergon Refining, Inc.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Technical or Engineering field
  • 3-5 years PSM and/or RMP experience
  • Knowledge of OSHA's Process Safety Management (PSM) standard
  • Knowledge of EPA's Risk Management Program (RMP) standard
  • Knowledge of OSHA's industry accepted safe work practices
  • Knowledge of refinery process equipment
  • Knowledge of applicable API refinery recommended work practices
  • Ability to lead incident investigations and perform root cause analysis
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work well with others and maintain a "Team" relationship
  • High level of proficiency or ability to learn computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, database programs
  • Must have successfully completed and passed a Functional Job Capacity Evaluation (FCE)

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Site Services Manager as needed to ensure that ERI is compliant with the requirements of PSM and RMP
  • Promote and maintain safe work habits and a "safety first" attitude with regard to process safety and personal safety
  • Provide knowledge and practical application of existing laws, regulations and procedures relating to process safety
  • Attend process safety committee meetings and conferences to stay current on industry issues and work practices
  • Participate as a team member for incident investigations and serve as investigation team leader when needed
  • Perform root cause analysis and provide solutions to prevent or mitigate causes
  • Responsible for the evaluation, maintenance and revision of the MOC Program, including PSSRs, to ensure conformance with the program and continuous improvements as needed to increase program efficiency
  • Participate in unit PHA/LOPA meetings and communicate results of the analysis to affected plant personnel
  • Participate in audits of process safety programs
  • Participate in Management of Change meetings and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews
  • Assist in tracking recommendations and action items from audits, investigations, MOCs, and process hazard analysis to ensure timely closure and evidence of completion
  • Develop and revise process safety documented programs, procedures, forms and other controlled documents to address deficiencies and areas of noncompliance
  • Facilitate, maintain and manage refinery safety systems in LOPA such as alarm management, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), critical check valves, relief system design, and relief valves
  • Facilitate, maintain and manage instrument bypass instruction program, orifice plate management program and other critical programs related to process safety
  • Participate as a member of the Process Safety Leadership Team and attend meetings to review incidents, MOCs, PHA/LOPA status and other PSM/RMP information as directed by the Site Services Manager
  • Provide support to other process safety element champions as needed to ensure that information on the status of the various elements is available for periodic management review meetings
  • Assist in the development, evaluation, and communication of all process safety
