About The Position

The Process Safety Engineer is the process safety leader for the Louisiana Integrated Polyethylene Joint Venture located in Westlake, LA. The individual is responsible for coordinating and auditing PSM (Process Safety Management) programs as well as identifying improvements to existing programs and developing and implementing improvement solutions. The individual will interface with a diverse group of customers including process and project engineering, operations, maintenance, plant management, HSE, and global OE and process safety.

Requirements

  • Must possess a four-year applicable BS degree in engineering. Chemical Engineering is preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a chemical or petrochemical facility.
  • Must have the right to work in the United States without VISA sponsorship.
  • Knowledge of OSHA PSM and related EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and develop key performance indicators (most importantly, leading indicators) to track PSM progress.
  • Write and implement effective procedures that support process safety.
  • Understand regulatory and OE implications of incidents and provide guidance to site for proper classification, investigation, and improvements.
  • Provide oversight for PSM audits and seek improvements for PSM practices across the site. Coordinate process safety knowledge sharing across the site.
  • Oversight of the OE Management System including the effectiveness verification report and the yearly assessment plan.
  • Participate in operational excellence (OE) gap analysis and external OE audits
  • Participate in facility siting efforts, including risk modeling with outside vendors, and participating on facility siting projects.
  • Develop PSM metrics, learnings, and other communication packages and present to company management.
  • Communicate external process safety events to the site and share best practices identified within the company.
  • Lead or participate on incident investigations.
  • Participate in company process safety technical networks.
  • Drive excellence with the Intelex Incident and Action Management System
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) PSM and RMP (Risk Management Program) regulations.
