About The Position

The Process Operator, Wood River Refinery will work independently and with other personnel to operate equipment and processes in the refinery, which produces transportation fuels, petrochemical feedstocks, asphalt, petroleum coke, and other products. Some of the processes involved use hazardous and volatile materials under high temperature and pressure. Typical working conditions include: outside weather and elements, blowing air, heat, noise, vibration and occasionally working from heights and confined spaces. Operators must follow safe work practices including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). In addition, Operators perform various duties required to keep their assigned processing unit/area operating safely and at specified production/run rates. This position requires the successful completion of an online assessment. Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
  • Willing and able to perform and comply with the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Climb up to 250 feet in height
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Work at least a 12-hour rotating shift, which includes some weekends and holidays
  • Read technical procedures and materials in English
  • Work overtime
  • Assume on-call responsibilities
  • Work in enclosed spaces, such as tanks and silos
  • Work near large, hot, high-speed machines
  • Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
  • Work with petroleum products that are under high pressure and at high temperatures
  • Work outside in harsh weather conditions
  • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, fall protection, hearing protection, and eye protection)
  • Maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
  • Able to evacuate in a safe and timely manner in the event of an emergency
  • Able to read at a level to understand written safety procedures, work procedures, work permits, instruction manuals
  • Learn computer software associated with process operations
  • Perform firefighting duties

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Process Technology
  • 1 or more years of work experience in manufacturing, oil & gas, heavy industrial, public safety, or military

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrating awareness and commitment to safety
  • Maintaining equipment and operations
  • Taking samples/readings of various process streams
  • Operating unit consoles
  • Monitoring and observing assigned area for abnormal conditions and emergency situations
  • Making necessary changes to ensure product is manufactured on specification
  • Turning valves
  • Taking gauge and instrument readings
  • Entering and retrieving computer data as well as data analysis
  • Lubricating and performing minor maintenance of equipment
  • Working with outside contractors and agencies
  • Participating in safety reviews
  • Initiating work orders and permitting for work related to the assigned unit
  • Completing lock out/tag out process for maintenance work
  • Maintaining proper and safe process operations of the operating equipment
  • Responding to safety and environmental incidents, should they occur, in a safe and efficient manner
  • Participating in annual training refreshers
  • Upholding company values, understanding and implementing all relevant company policies and procedures to ensure all work meets the required standard
  • Serving on the basic fire crew - must be able to wear full firefighting bunker gear (weight of full gear is approximately 45 to 50 pounds) and perform strenuous firefighting activities in extremes of heat and cold weather
