About The Position

Cargill's Engineering and Data Sciences group, based in Minneapolis, MN, with satellite offices globally, is a fast-paced, growing area impacting Cargill's operations from grain processing to supply chain optimization. This group handles projects from conception through plant startup and optimization, boasting expertise in advanced control, process simulation, linear programming, computational fluid dynamics, statistics, and numerical methods. The internship program offers graduate engineering students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in an industrial setting through substantive projects that bring value to Cargill's businesses. We are seeking highly skilled engineers enthusiastic about non-traditional simulation, process control, and data analysis projects.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a M.S. or Ph.D in Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Modeling or related field, expecting to graduate December 2027 or later.
  • Able to complete a 12-week internship in the summer (May/June - August 2027).
  • Geographically flexible and willing to relocate for an internship opportunity in Wayzata, MN.
  • First principles-based chemical process modeling experience (whole-process or detailed unit operation).
  • Demonstrated facility with applied computing (e.g., Chemical Engineering simulation packages or programming languages such as Fortran, Matlab, Python, Visual Basic or C/C++).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work optimally with individuals from a diverse set of backgrounds and cultures.
  • Must possess a high degree of initiative and resourcefulness in completing work with limited guidance.

Nice To Haves

  • 3.0 GPA or above out of a 4.0 scale.
  • Going into final year of graduate program.
  • Previous experience/education with conceptual design and/or optimization of chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Project experience based on Process Simulation, Process Control, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Kinetic Modeling, Optimization or Applied Statistics.
  • Broad understanding of process equipment and component physical properties.

Responsibilities

  • Be assigned to one or two core projects that will be substantive in nature.
  • Serve as the primary technical contributor for project work, with leadership support from the Engineering and Data Science team.
  • Gain immediate hands-on work experience in one of the world’s largest agribusiness companies.
  • Receive periodic and candid feedback on job performance.
