About The Position

Re:Build Optimation is seeking a Process & Mechanical Engineer Co-op/Intern to join their team. This role involves supporting engineering & design, trades, and project management teams on client-facing projects within various industries. The intern will gain experience in requirements gathering, design, diagram development, equipment specification, calculations, BOM creation, materials selection, code research, fabrication support, and troubleshooting. They will also develop drawings using CAD and process simulation tools, assist in writing technical reports, and participate in project meetings. The position includes mentorship from a senior engineer and collaboration with project managers.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a BS and/or MS degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and personal management skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Eager to learn and adapt in a fast-paced engineering environment; naturally curious.
  • Experience with CAD software/tools; AutoCAD 2D/3D and/or SolidWorks preferred.
  • Ability to be on-site at our offices in Rochester, NY and/or Rush, NY.
  • Experience with process simulation tools; ChemCAD preferred.
  • Minimum GPA 3.0 preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior co-op, internship, or relevant project experience supporting engineering & design of industrial equipment and/or automation solutions a plus.
  • Experience working with ISO9001 or similar quality system a plus.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement tools & methodologies a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support project teams in requirements gathering, concept & preliminary designs, PFD and P&ID development, equipment specification & selection, engineering calculations, BOM creation, materials selection, code & standard review/research, fabrication & assembly support, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop drawings & schematics utilizing CAD software/tools and process simulation tools.
  • Support the development & writing of technical reports & project documentation.
  • Work closely with a senior or principal engineer mentor to define and execute on personal and professional development goals.
  • Participate in internal & client project meetings and design reviews.
  • Collaborate with project managers to plan, manage, and execute tasks.
