About The Position

This role is responsible for the routine and non-routine repair and maintenance of process equipment and systems. The Process Mechanic III will build upon basic mechanical aptitude and expand their knowledge and skills in the repair and maintenance of process equipment and department systems in compliance with established Company standards. Process equipment and systems include but are not limited to receiving, sorting, conveying, pumping, weighing, peeling, scrubbing, blanching, cutting, drying, battering and frying. Prior experience with processing equipment, electrical troubleshooting, and welding is a definite advantage. The individual will develop the skills necessary to repair process equipment and perform maintenance activities that improve and sustain equipment reliability to maximize plant production and uptime. This position requires the ability to work the scheduled days, shifts, times, and overtime required.

• Must be able to read Operation & Maintenance manuals, work logs and work orders.
• Must lift 30 lbs. in awkward positions and carry ladders, gearboxes, pumps, rolls, belts etc.
• Must lift 50 lbs. in awkward positions and carry ladders, gearboxes, pumps, rolls, belts etc.
• Required to be on your feet most of the time moving from one area to another.
• Must walk continuously throughout the assigned work area doing preventive maintenance and repairs. The assigned work area is large involving a lot of stairs and catwalks.
• Kneel when work or repairs are being made on or near the floor.
• Crawl some preventive maintenance and repairs must be made under equipment that is low to the floor.
• Shovel removal of material must be done to gain access to equipment by shoveling.
• Access to equipment is gained only by climbing stairs on 2 levels.
• Climb/balance only when there is no other way and all safety measures have been taken.
• Stoop/bend bend at waist bend at knees squat working on equipment at various levels.
• Reaching below knees, knees to shoulder, above shoulder working on equipment at various levels.
• Push/pull i.e., broom, cart, or tote when using tools or shop equipment.
• Fine finger manipulation i.e., using screwdriver when making repairs - small tools adjusting equipment in blind areas.
• Handling/grasping power grasp lifting and moving equipment, grinding, and using tools.
• Repetitive tasks back, shoulders, arms, hand, wrist, fingers making repairs and adjustments using tools/lifting.
• Foot control walking on slick floors and in congested areas.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience with processing equipment, electrical troubleshooting, and welding is a definite advantage.
• High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
• 6-month certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of one-year education and related experience and/or training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and promotes safe work practices at all times, assures that safe work practices are being followed in all work groups, and actively participates in safety programs.
• Performs assigned duties and responsibilities in a safe and satisfactory manner.
• Understands and complies with all known posted or generally accepted instructions, procedures, rules, practices, policies or other items covered in the Employee Handbook.
• Performs corrective and preventive maintenance including the lubrication and inspection of equipment within scope of responsibility to sustain and improve equipment reliability.
• Performs the safe isolation, shut down, inspection, adjustment, repair/overhaul or startup of equipment and systems within scope of responsibility with the mindset of learning to identify defects, learning to identify the reason for the failure, and then take corrective action to eliminate a recurring failure.
• Performs the troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical and pneumatic issues to identify defects and to take corrective action to correct the failure.
• Performs and documents the removal, installation, disassembly, repair, and re-assembly of plant components and equipment as needed to obtain optimal, reliable and sustainable operation.
• Documents corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance including the lubrication and inspection of equipment to improve and sustain equipment reliability. Documentation may include but is not limited to SAP, Belt Tracking form, FM form, BDE card, etc...
• Evaluates equipment for performance. Per training and following established procedures, perform adjustments to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges.
• Switch to backup equipment or systems, or shut down equipment as needed to assure optimal equipment performance and the production of quality potato products.
• Performs non-routine maintenance jobs assigned and monitored by the Process Maintenance Lead, Maintenance Team Leader, Team Leader Production, or Plant Management.
• Shares learnings with fellow employees, salaried team members and outside resources to improve collaboration to improve safety, working relationships, and equipment performance.
• Assists other work groups, specialists, outside resources and contractors with the troubleshooting, adjustment, repair, replacement, modification, maintenance, rebuilding and installation of components, equipment, piping, etc., as directed.
• Utilizes resources such as printed or on-line equipment manuals, operating instructions, troubleshooting guidelines, blueprints, schematics, diagrams, etc., to assemble, disassemble, troubleshoot, repair or replace equipment or system components.
• Develops the knowledge and skills necessary to advance from a 3rd Class Process Mechanic to a 2nd Class Process Mechanic within the maximum allotted time of 12 months from the date of hire or transfer as 3rd Class.
• Maintains 5S standards, (Sort, Set, Systematize, Shine and Sustain).
• Keeps a neat, clean, orderly work area.
• Follows instruction given verbally, in work orders, equipment manuals, etc.
• Advises Team Leader and Planner of any inaccuracies found in work orders, manuals, schematics, etc., and documents in SAP where applicable.
• Utilizes SAP to locate equipment and data in SAP on that equipment such as drawings, schematics, parts, etc., as well as if the part is a stocked item in our plant Stores, the quantity on hand and the bin location.
• Assists Stores personnel, when needed, to identify or locate needed equipment or parts in the secured Stores areas.
• Provides accurate detailed information to Planner(s) of inaccuracies found in equipment BOM’s or items needing added to equipment BOM’s.
• Submits Notifications for deficiencies noted during the performance of tasks or through general observation that will improve and sustain reliability.
• Examines parts to identify defects. Builds the capability to identify the root cause reason for the failure, and to take appropriate corrective action to sustain optimal, reliable and sustainable operation.
• Completes assigned work in a timely manner.
• If held over to cover an absence, completes the assigned work of the absent team member.
• Fully accounts for time worked (less breaks) utilizing the CMMS system (SAP).
• Builds the capability to be responsible for the troubleshooting, replacement and re-wiring of electrical components being replaced.
• Troubleshoots motors back to the MCC bucket and verifies that wires are properly torqued, heaters/overloads and fuses are good and if bad replaces them (with the properly rated components), or changes rotation of a motor if required.
• When troubleshooting or replacing motors, takes, compares and documents the motor amp-draw to the FLA rating of the motor.
• Repairs or assists in repairs in other areas of the plant as instructed by the Maintenance Lead, Maintenance Team Leader, Team Leader Production, or Plant Management.
• Participates in and helps drive DMS (Daily Management System) and other miscellaneous programs as assigned.
• Learns to differentiate between stainless steel, mild steel and aluminum materials and gains the knowledge to determine the appropriate applications and correct fabrication and welding process for each.
• Develops the skills to weld, solder, bolt, rivet, screw, clip, caulk, or bond materials together.
• Develops the skills to be able to cut, weld, repair or install materials and equipment to company specifications using verbal direction, prints, sketches, diagrams, and blueprints.
• Is or becomes capable in the use of hand tools, power tools, and testing or specialty equipment necessary to execute the duties associated with this job. (Test or specialty equipment includes but is not limited to multimeters, meggers, infrared and laser alignment tools.)
• Becomes capable of having the skills required to set up and operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, routers, etc., to cut, bend, and form or straighten materials.
• Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material to develop or trace patterns of parts or uses templates.
• Develops the skills required to align machines and equipment.
• Follows established procedures to learn the safest and proper way to operate and maintain equipment.
• Develops the knowledge, experience, desire and communication skills to begin sharing learnings with fellow employees, salaried team members and outside resources to improve collaboration to improve safety, working relationships, and equipment performance.
• Becomes qualified to operate Powered Lift Trucks, Scissor Lifts, Snorkel Lifts and other equipment necessary to facilitate the execution of their various job functions including but not limited to the maintenance, removal, or placement of equipment, and/or the materials, supplies and tools associated with maintenance activities.
